Why do Republicans think the purpose of government is to turn a profit?

I believe what I hear from the Republican leadership. Is that so bad?

Presidential GOP candidate Michele Bachmann stops in Lutz, Sarasota during tour through FL

Bachmann said that as president, she plans to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency, or as she calls it, the “job killing agency.”

GOP's 'Pledge to America' Would End Up Privatizing Social Security

Remember When Mitt Romney Called Disaster Relief Immoral and Wanted to Privatize It?

Why do you guys always say I'm making this stuff up? You sit in front of the Internet. You can read the same things I read. You can watch the Republican leadership saying the things I said they are saying.

And it doesn't even need to be edited like the GOP does with "you didn't build that".
Good for her, she would be a better potus then the dipshit we have now.

You're talking about former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, right?
Yep!

No, so when did republicans say they wanted no government (which we call anarchy, because we think it's a bad thing)

Our goal is to shrink government to the size where we can drown it in a bathtub.

This is a guy who says he want's government to go back to 1900 before help for the poor, Social Security, Medicare. You know, when old people ate cat food. The GOP vision for America. I got mine, fuck you.
Yeah, before the socialist programs put forth by socialists.

Who thinks that?

Anyone who thinks government should be run like a business.

Not sure what you’re getting at OohPooPahDoo. I have two points to make:

1.) Running the gov’t like a business is hardly a bad thing. Are you against cutting out bureaucracy and unnecessary overhead to maximize the value of every $ you have to spend? This is something that a business would try to do. Are you against financial planning and creating straightforward, workable budgets so that your debt doesn’t grow out of control (and you’re not at risk of going bankrupt in 10 years)? This is something that a business would try to do. Are those bad things?

2.) Don’t overlook the fact that the Democrats also try to run the gov’t like a business. Hasn’t President Obama (like Bush) continued to increase the power and authority of the Executive branch by issuing executive order after executive order? If you ask me, this sort of behavior is pretty similar to that of a CEO or Company President who does not necessarily have to worry about “what the employees think” when issuing a new policy.

If Obama wanted the gov't to be run 'less like a business', he would be decreasing the powers of the Office of the President.. right?

What would be the big deal if government spent less than it took in?

That is the very definition of profit after all.

wrong, in the case of a government its called surplus. revenue exceeding expenditures.

as long as we have a 17 trillion national debt, it will never happen. there will never be enough surplus to pay off the debt.

right now we are only paying the interest on the debt---and borrowing money to do that.

Its fiscal insanity

Semantics.

And debt does not negate profit or surplus as long as interest and principle payments are factored into the budget.

I might owe some money on equipment leases but the balance in no way negates any profit for the fiscal year.

but in the case of your business you are paying both principle and interest on your debts. The country is only paying the interest while running up more debt every year. Eventually that house of cards is going to fall.

True but as far as the profit argument goes the principle is just another account payable.

The problem is that no business could borrow 40 cents of every dollar spent and still keep its doors open.

If the government turned a profit, we wouldn't need any taxes that would wind up being spent on having better paying jobs and no joblessness. :woohoo:

Why do Republicans think the purpose of government is to turn a profit?

because it beats the hell out of the additional 6 trillion dollars of debt obama has heaped on us

So government profiting off of its citizens is good?

Man, no offense - but have you been paying attention to Obama's past 5 years?

Obamacare? This bill was drafted (in large part) by some gigantic – capitalistic – Pharmaceutical companies, something that I consider to be a heavy conflict of interests. Thanks to Obama, we now have no choice but to contribute to the already gigantic profit margins of these companies via government mandate. There was even a law that was included in the bill that will limit United States resident’s ability to obtain cheap medicine from Canada over “safety concerns” (as if we’re stupid enough to believe it has nothing to do with the fact that the Pharm companies can charge 16x the price in the United States).

And what about all the Monsanto catering by Obama? Appointing a former Monsanto exec to a top spot in the FDA? Signing the Monsanto protection act that basically absolves these bio tech companies of ANY responsibility for health damages caused by their products..

You need to open your eyes sir and realize this is not just a Republican problem; it exists on both sides of the aisle..

exactly, only someone with a printing press can do that.

It amazes me that the entire country is not enraged about this----are the american citizens that ignorant?

It was the Republicans that blocked the public option proposal by Obama. Obamacare was thought of by Mitt Romney, you should thank him instead.
