Some were forced out, Boo but the majority left because they fully expected the Arab armies surrounding Israel would make short work of the new Jewish State and then they would be able to return. It didn't work out that way. As for what I would do if my family lived there? If I didn't like the idea of living as an Arab in a Jewish State I would have packed up the family and left for an Arab State. I wouldn't have hoped that my fellow Arabs would wipe my Jewish neighbors out. Considering the state of war it's found it'self in for the last seventy years Israel has been extremely fair with any Arabs who chose to stay and be part of Israel.
