I think it is about the desire to accept the inevitable and work towards a common understanding with respect for all people involved.
Whether or not we like it ... Whether or not we agree with each other ... If we are a family, we would not have the choice as to who is involved and who we can leave on the doorstep.

I ended my opposition to Same Sex marriage years ago when I realized that the compromise that was proposed- Civil Unions- was being fought against as strongly as marriage.

I never objected to homosexuals being able to marry each other, but I didn't think society would be willing to accept it- and Civil Unions seems like a reasonable compromise- about 10-20 years ago.

But now? America has undergone a sea change- and I welcome others to the institution of marriage that my wife and I are members of.

It is time for the United States to break apart. There is no more one nation but a collection of squabbling tribes that no longer want to live together. If this was a family, it would be getting a divorce.

As I said earlier in this thread, I had the opportunity to participate in a gay wedding last Saturday.

It was in a public park. There was a hispanic family who came to the park to let their kids play. They all gathered at the edge of where our celebration took place, and watched. When the brides walked back down the aisle, to our applause, they all clapped as well. So did the two senior citizens who had also stopped to watch.

The times they are a changin.
