Yes, it was about slavery. The confederacy wanted to secede from the union - willing to fight against their own country, fellow citizens, even family - in order preserve what they percieved as their right to keep slaves.

The modern version of the left has been used to make it about slavery because modern libs of today do not believe in State rights.
The state rights tone was set in the preamble to the Confederate Constitution in the significant phrase, "each State acting in its sovereign and independent character."

2. I admit that the Civil War BEGAN and REMAINED as a matter of Preserving the Union.

3. I submit that the Civil War EVOLVED into a struggle that ALSO included the Abolition of Slavery as a prime motivating factor in continuing and prosecuting the war.

Both sides didn't " practice wide- spread slavery". There were only slave states and free states. Most of the slave states seceeded but not all. That doesn't make the union pro slavery Corky. Just another (albeit somewhat retarded) attempt at revision.

No question about that. LIncoln himself said it many times. He wanted to preserve the union. He opposed slavery but didn't want to do anything about it.

I slightly disagree. There were many issues and states rights was one of them. The war was also about profiteering and tariffs and the simple fact that the north and south hated each other. Certainly states rights was a bigger cause than slavery..
