Why the GOP is trying to defund obamacare.

that's oversimplistic for a kindergartener. The dems think obamacare is the right thing, and there is logical support for at least parts of it by such places as Kaiser and Johns Hopkins.
The Dems think it will bring them power.

Any other excuse is just lies.

Having the government control 1/6th of the economy will give them power, a LOT of it.

It's simply the GOPs turn to play bad cop. To think that they actually have the people's business in mind over this is foolish at best, and down right ignorant at worst.

Bad Cop?

They aren't "faking" this.

41 times and a threat to close down government is not faking. Even rich folks are going to feel the pinch.

Yes, they are faking this. A deal will be struck, Obama Tax will be funded and this political theater will come back around again once we've reached another "debt ceiling".

And the point of doing that is what again?

That really makes no sense. Why play bad cop when it can get you voted out of power in the next election? The reason is that they know how bad Obamacare will be and they know it is the right thing to do.

Because they aren't going to get voted out of power. Last election cycle the congress had what? a 13% approval rating? How many of those members lost their seat?

People will forget about this come next week. Furthermore, there are constituents of these critters who want them to do this.

They are playing politics over an issue they cant win. If for any other reason, to garner more votes for being the bad cop heroes over Obamacare.

It's ignorant to believe otherwise.

I disagree. The GOP isn't concerned about keeping seats as much as they are concerned about winning the Senate and keeping the House.

Even if I agreed with you, then explain to me why they are doing this.

They are playing their part. Here you are praising them for their actions. That's what they want. A deal will be struck. No govt. shutdown will occur and Obama Tax will be funded.

This is a political stunt. And it will garner them support to Obama Tax opposition. Not too mention people like me who would love to see the govt shutdown, even if i already know it wont.

The dems know that there are flaws in the ACA bill, but they are so arrogant that they refuse to discuss ways to improve the bill.

There are some good things in it that should be kept, and many bad things that should be trashed--the dems know this, but they are afraid that looking for a compromise will look like they lost.

So they will continue to ram this mess up our collective asses.

liberalism is a mental disease

In every election, the Dems play one trump card to win and hold onto power.

The fear of Social Security being stripped away from the elderly.

Now, they will have two.......

They think it will bring them power...

Every other statement as to why Dems want Obamacare is just lies.

We really shouldl make a concerted effort to call it what it is, Obama Tax. It's a tax. There is nothing caring about theft.

.

Seems to me this is either a brilliant political move or absolute political naivete.

The two most likely scenarios if the government were actually to shut down (which would still have to be considered doubtful) would be:

(a) the electorate would point the finger directly at the GOP with the help of the Dems & media and punish the GOP for its consistent obstruction and unwillingness to pay bills we owe, leading to sweeping Dem victories in 2014 and massive self-inflicted wound for the GOP as the Dems can then streamroll whatever freakin' legislation suits their fancy, or

(b) the electorate suddenly falls in love with the GOP for the massive problems associated with a government shutdown, ignoring those problems and rewarding them for sticking to their guns and voting their conscience and all that.

Are people really thinking that (b) would happen?

.

The GOP's belief that the uninsured did something wrong to make them uninsured, and that they deserve to stay uninsured and suffer, has been a political loser for the GOP.

When are conservatives going to learn this, and change their policies?

Not all people who are suffering from not being able to afford their care are old white people, who the GOP helped so generously by creating Medicare D, and huge social program funded by taxpayers.

There's a cottage industry of fundraising and various other moneymaking scams that has developed around the repeal/defund Obamacare nonsense.

The GOP and the rest of the conservative propaganda complex are going to milk that cow dry.

Government has been and is the instrument of propaganda, and the left actually believe that now today suddenly to question government is propaganda. Talk about baa...

Ted Cruz in tv ads jabbering about defunding Obamacare while trying to get you to send money,

that IS the government.

Trying to end a government program is government? Say what?

It's political theatre to garner support from the base.

That is probably true with some, but the leaders like Ted Cruz are as serious as can be.

Even left wing hero Warren Buffett said that obamacare needed to be scrapped. They don't care, it's all about power.

completely false. Every american should have healthcare, and before the ACA bill they did. No one in the USA was being denied healthcare, NO ONE.

There were, and are, cost issues that need addressing, but obamacare does nothing to reduce cost. But it will limit treatment options, it will delay treatment, and it will cause doctors to quit. It is terrible legislation.

but tell me old fart, why has congress exempted itself if its so wonderful?

I don't believe for a minute that the government will shut down. Ted Cruz et al, is trying to defund obamacare because it's a ruinous piece of legislation. It won't happen but he's trying anyway.

They are doing it because their constituents want them to. Imagine that huh?
