Why the right fights

No, you are crazy because you don't take your meds like the nice doctor told you to.

I mean, I'm not even sure what your point was, here. If you even had one.

We don't let people buy raw milk because raw milk is unhealthy. That's why it has to be PASTUERIZED' (Hey, Louis Pastuer...look him up some time.)

My point is you support corporate welfare.

I support that certain industries need to be subsidized and regulated for the common good.

And so did the REpublican Party, at one point. Their major disagreement with Democrats was what the most effective way of doing that was.

Now they've taken up with the Ayn Rand crazy that we don't need government, because Free Market Superheroes will save the day.

Regulated, certainly.

The centuries of criminal disregard industries have exhibited toward their employees and consumers alone more than justifies regulatory measures – where indeed businesses have only themselves to blame.

And yes, in a more enlightened time republicans understood and agreed with this as well.

A more interesting and relevant thread would ask the question: why does the right continue to adhere blindly to failed political dogma?

Is it ignorance, fear, stupidity, greed, arrogance, pride?

Are they just too stubborn to admit they’re wrong?

Do conservatives simply have an ‘extra helping’ of the dark side of being human?

Are their shoes too tight, their heads not screwed on right, or are their hearts two sizes too small?

Is it how their brains are wired? Some sort of chemical or hormonal imbalance? A birth defect?

All of the above?

Americans at least should know why they’re forced to suffer the affliction known as conservatism.

Didn't read the OP at all, did you?

Let me take a stab at this, being a recovering Conservative.

I think there is a valid view point that a government that can give you everything you want can take everything you have.

In their hearts, they probably really do think that people should work for their health care, and it should be up to individuals and charities to provide them instead of the government.

Except the problem is, that was tried and failed.

Let me point out why JoeB is considered a fool.

When did we ever do it the way you say failed?

Yet the more and more government involvement we have with healthcare, the problems just keep getting worse. Medicaid, Medicare, HMOs, and gajillion pages of laws, rules, regulations, taxes, and it just keeps getting more and more expensive the more and more government fiddles with healthcare.

Why is Obamacare going to be different given the track record of government involvement?

Well lets continue with 17 Trillion in debt and will continue to add up and by 2016 it will be at 20 trillion add another big Social Program called Affordable Health Care that will cost us 1.2 trillion the first year and see how that works out.

No conservative wants anything even close to what you all are accusing them of.

If we don't do something to reform the big Entitlement programs there won't be any Entitlement programs.
It is not the right who are saying that these programs are not sustainable, it is the Government itself.

We pay 30 billion each and every month on our debt and when inflation hits, that number is going up big time.
All of the Dem's refuse to deal with it.

We need to take Conservative principles and couple them with 21st century technology

We don't need Federal Departments to control corn production or set the price of milk, that's Old School DemoSoviet Thought.

Individual freedom couple with nearly unlimited access to information will put the consumer back in charge

The problem with putting the "consumer" in charge is that you mean only the consumer who can afford them.

They actually do have a country that follows the TeaBagger philosophy. It's called "Somalia".

Lots of guns. No government. No Social Safety Net. Lots of crazy religion.

Fuck your social safety net. If people did what they're supposed to do they wouldnt need the gov to step in and save their ass.
You wont see me ask for anything I didnt pay for. PERIOD!!

True.

The other problem being this Nation’s disdain of pragmatism, where citizens feel compelled to adhere blindly to a given political dogma, left or right.

Otherwise, it is a valid point to believe that a government that can give you everything you want can take everything you have – of course, no one’s advocating any such thing, democrats and liberal in particular.

As for believing that people should work for their health care, and it should be up to individuals and charities to provide them instead of the government, this is a naïve and unrealistic anachronism – it’s perfectly appropriate for an industrialized Western Nation such as the United States to afford its citizens access to healthcare, as it in no way constitutes ‘socialism’ and does not act as a ‘disincentive’ to hard work and a desire to succeed. Indeed, it has the opposite effect.

Right.

And don’t forget to tell the government to keep its hands off your Medicare.

as long as interest on the debt stays below 7% of annual spending, we're doing ok.

Well, I'm glad you have your "principles", guy.

Here's the thing. Most people will not watch their children starve over a principle.

They will ask for help and vote for the people who give it to them.

Well, here's another guy who's not "most people":

The health insurance market websites may be crashing under the weight of people trying to log in, but plenty of uninsured Americans aren’t eager to try out Obamacare, no matter how often the federal government says ‘Try it, you’ll like it’.

They say even if they do eventually sign up, it will be reluctantly.

“I don’t think that the government should be involved in health care or health insurance,” says Greg Collett, a 41-year-old software developer in Caldwell, Idaho, who would rather pay the fine for now -- $95 the first year -- than signup.

“I calculated it out and it is cheaper for me for the next four years to pay the fine rather than get coverage,” Collett said. “At some point where it would make financial sense to pay for insurance rather than pay fines, I will make the decision from a financial standpoint.”

So he's just making a sound financial decision, right? Well, here's something else about him:

Collett counts himself among the 29 percent of people who said in an NBCNews/Kaiser poll they are angry about the health reform law. “The issue for me is that it is not the proper role of government,” he said.

Collett, who is married and has 10 children, says the kids are covered by Medicaid, the joint state-federal health insurance plan for people with low income and children who are not covered.

But it’s “absolutely not okay,” that they are, Collett says quickly. “There are a lot of people out there that’ll cry foul."

Collett, whose children are home-schooled, likens taking Medicaid to sending children to public school. He also does not approve of government-funded public schools. “The government is taking your money. They are spending it on things they shouldn’t be,” he says. “Trying to get whatever you can back -- I have nothing against that. You have to at some point try and get your tax dollars back.”

Has all kinds of public help for him breeding like a fuckin' rabbit, but would STILL vote against it.
