/----/ The actual answer, for those interested, is that TV personalities have the advantage of being trained to appear on Television and on stage. President Reagan's Hollywood training and experience remembering lines and playing to an audience gave him a distinct advantage. They also are a household name with a following. It helped Trump the same way. So when a candiate presents him/herself for office, having TV experience is a giant plus.

Let's take both Trump and Oz as examples. Here were two men that came up in fame as Progressives. Trump was a life long donator to the DNC, giving politicians like Schumer millions and was pro-abortion, etc. However, he saw a chance politically to oppose them.
