NY 26th FINALLY DEM!
Hint: Always democratic, NOT communism. The rest of the world has agreed since about 1935, when the true nature of the USSR was revealed. The bastion of democracy has been remiss. "Where the means of production is owned, controlled or regulated by the gov't" at worst.

Most of the first world is social-democracy = a hybrid system of socialism and capitalism. This system regulates the capitalist side of things.

You could look back throughout the last 8,000 years and find elements of this. Loserterians want pure capitalism and they're evil.

" "Where the means of production is owned, controlled or regulated by the gov't" at worst."

THAT is the very part we don't like. And THAT form of government would certainly be the WORST.

Most conservatives love socialism. Red states use the most welfare. The tea partiers with signs "keep the government's hands off my medicare". The vast majority support keeping social security.

And who wants to do away with monopoly laws, or antitrust laws.

This is a pretty desperate gambit to take the sting out of the American usage of 'socialist'. There are many reasons that socialists are pariahs, mostly because of the oppressive history of socialism.

Conservatives are not against any Socialism. Socialism has a role. However, more Capitalism is needed to pay for Socialism. Where Socialism is greater than Capitalism, the Thatcher Axiom comes into play: " you eventually run out of other people's money to pay for it"

There is no dictate in socialism that prevents profit from socialist programs. A hydro electric plant uses a publicly owned river to generate electricity and charges the public for the use of the electricity. Funds generated by those sales can be adjusted to pay for the production and extra can be added to generate a profit.

To Conservatives....

The Government helping capitalists = Patriotism
The Government helping people= Socialism

I don't know if conservatives don't know the difference between socialism and a social democracy or if they are choosing to conflate the two to scare people.

But they're clearly making it easier for the social democrats to make advances.

.
The word "socialist" has been demonized by the right for years, but particularly the last decade. The right has taken advantage of the fact that their are so many varieties and definitions of those varieties to confuse and complicate the public. We see that nonsense going on regularly right here at USMB. How often do you see threads about Democrats and progressives = socialist= communist=totalitarianism? One poster does it regularly and floods the site with such propaganda in new thread after new thread. The result has been total misconceptions of what socialism is and is not by masses of so called conservatives.

Well, they've jumped the shark with this, and now more and more people on the Left are deciding that the word is no longer toxic. You can see it on this board.

This happened with the surge of the Tea Party, who allowed themselves (and more importantly, the party) to be painted into a corner with their absolutism.

The cat is out of the bag now, we'll see.

America has been socialist since FDR- just an unfair, pander to the rich one when Pubs are in power. But thanks for the corrupt bubbles/busts recessions and depressions and the bs propaganda.
