Would republican voters support lowering the minimum wage if the GOP pushed such a thing?

After all, the government had no place in raising the wage to begin with! Cost of living and inflation be damned! Corporate profits are all that matters! The GOP really looks out for us all huh? That turtle faced piece of shit McDonnell is a true Christian after all.

Them doing this really wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility. After all, the GOP was outraged after Obama expanded over time pay entitlement to thousands of workers. They of course had to undo that!

Point blank: republicans would you support lowering the minimum wage because of your weird outrage over it being raised over time in the first place?

Lowering the minimum wage would not effect actual workers who have skills....what it would actually do is allow teenagers to get jobs and job skills that help them get real jobs once they are out of high school......the minimum wage was never supposed to support a family of 10.....

But a huge minimum wage increase does effect everybody down the line. It's the domino effect.

A kid gets out of high school and lands a job at a factory. Because he has no knowledge of the business, he learns as he works there. He started at $8.00 an hour, but as he learned more, he got pay increases along the way.

So five years later he's now making $15.00 instead of $8.00. Then Democrats are able to get power and make the minimum wage that same amount. Do you think that guy who worked there for five years would be happy being back at minimum wage?

So he approaches his supervisor or HR department and complains; even threatens to leave the company. He wants $22.00 an hour to continue to work there. The company only has two choices: give him the 22 bucks an hour, or allow him to leave and try to find another good employee who knows nothing for 15 bucks an hour.

So now that guy is making 22. Okay, that sounds fine, but what about the guy who was with the company for 13 years making 22 bucks an hour? Think he will accept that?

There should be a minimum wage, because all business owners are predatory and would make you take a dollar an hour if they could get away with it. However, $15 an hour is double what it use to be and that's way too much.

There should be a minimum wage, because all business owners are predatory ...

What exactly do you mean by "predatory"? Are they defrauding people (which is illegal and can be prosecuted)? Are the coercing people (also illegal and can be prosecuted)? Or are they simply taking advantage of people who are willing to work for very little? If it's just that last bit, why is that a problem? As long as no one is being forced to work, why does it matter? Why should government tell people what wages they can accept?

Nope! I vote GOP but I don't support lowering or getting rid of the minimum wage.

Under Trump, the GOP is being transformed into a bunch of full-blown statists.

The problem is nobody would work for a dollar an hour; not even an illegal. It would be way more beneficial to go on social programs than work for that.

Minimum wage workers in the US are about 3% to 5% of our workforce last I looked it up. Because of our outstanding Trump economy, it's likely about 3% today.

Minimum wage was passed in 1938. Back then between lack of jobs and no social programs, industry was able to take advantage of desperate people. Today that's simply not the case, and MW is really no longer needed.

Now it's a political tool if anything. And for those 3% of people, a drastic increase in MW would have devastating effects on the rest of the workforce.

Yes , minimum wage laws are racist and should be zero.
Zero wages. Ain't that what we call slavery?

Only if you are forced to work for free. If you do it on your own, it's not slavery at all.
What is the benefit of zero wages? What is the virtue of lower wages? Would people willingly offer their labor for lower wages if there were no other means of amliving for them?

Let's pretend you live in Williamson, WV. There are four coal mines, a Dollar General and an O'Reilly Auto Parts store in town. The coal mines decide to,lower the wages to $3.50 an hour. The aDollar General has a staff of 10 and they pay $3.00 an hour. O'Reilly's has a staff of six and pays $3.25 an hour. You have a mortgage and two kids who want to attend WVU next September,

Should you knuckle under and agree your wages are too high, then move out of town? Can you sell your house?

What exactly do you mean by "predatory"?

I mean that with no controls, employers can "talk" a person that is desperate into taking a job, any job, because they are in need. That's a predator. I've had that played on me only I would not play. LOL

There are a lot of things you can do. Yes, you can move for better opportunities which people do every day in this country. The other is petition your state leaders to institute a state minimum wage. You can open up your own business and pay yourself whatever you can sell your products or services for. You can also just go on welfare which pays better than three bucks an hour.

Most places don't have minimum wage jobs anymore because nobody will work them at the current rate. Even McDonald's starts off at a buck or more above minimum wage to attract workers. There is only so low people will work for.

The point is that the guy that was making 22 bucks an hour will want 27. It's what I said earlier about the Domino Effect. And yes, the cost of living will skyrocket. That's why the people making minimum wage at it's current rate will be no better off at the new rate. They will be getting more money, but they will also be paying out more. It's a push.

So why push it? Because the more you make, the more money government takes. It's really a wealth distribution scheme from consumers to the federal government.

Leave those jobs unfilled. Let the employers do the work themselves. Everyone wins then. Those jobs aren't important.

We are saying the same thing. The problem isn't the wages. It's the fact that cost of living has outstripped the wages for the last 40 years to the point where it has become a vicious cycle that never ends. When a worker gets a raise to compensate for not getting a raise for the last 3 years but the cost of living has gone up each year for those 3 years anyway, the cost of living adjusts again for that raise he just received. He just lost ground. No matter how big a raise he gets, he ends up earning less in comparison. The Rich just got Richer.

But also remember that many employers fund healthcare insurance for their employees. We all know what those annual increases are.

And what is the cost of living to most Americans these days? The cost of living includes family cell phone service, the highest speed internet they can buy, 400 channel cable or satellite service, eating fast food four or more times a week.

You said you were an older gentleman. If so, then I don't have to tell you what adults spent money on back then. You had an 8-track player receiver. You had a 25" television that got three channels on it. You went out to eat maybe about four or five times a year. You had one telephone in the house for the entire family. When kids played games, it was not on a 500 dollar game system with various game cartridges or CD's that cost 50 bucks or more. You played baseball outside. You went sled riding. You didn't watch all the newest movies on pay-per-view. You went to the movie theater about as much as you went out to dine.

What I spend today for my cell phone bill for me and my mother, and cable/ internet, is about what my monthly rent was back in 1980 when I got my first apartment.
