Wounded Warriers---a great charity

Yes, we should all support them, but the VA should be paying their entire medical bills and taking care of basic needs for themselves and their families. What they get from charities should be extra.

Medical bills? What is not covered?

If everything was being covered why are they depending on charities like wounded warriers? if everything is being paid, why are charities needed?

most of these kids are not able to work to support their families, is the VA paying their living expenses?

Who owns the purse strings on the VA?

Depending upon the rank at medical retirement and percentage of disability, the VA pays all disabled veterans a stipend.

Here's the link to the VA disability paytables: Veterans Compensation Benefits Rate Tables - Effective 12/1/12 - Compensation

If you notice, the largest amount is about $3k per month. Do you honestly think any vet can support himself and his family on that amount?

What Wounded Warriors does is help these vets in ways they cannot help themselves.

I personally wish more of their donations went directly to the vets.

congress, which party has controlled congress for most of the last 75 years? if you don't know, look it up.

Now, my question. Why isn't the government doing what this charity is doing? Of all the people that the government should help, these should be at the top of the list. Why must a private charity take care of these kids?

In a word ... Republicans. They advocate all social services be handled by private charity.

not true, cite one bill that the GOP has sponsored that would cut benefits for wounded veterans.

You won't be able to so how about answering this question: why didn't obama increase benefits for wounded veterans when he had control of both houses of congress? Why did he send billions to the muslim brotherhood and ignore our wounded vets?

Lost the first point so you're trying to move to a new one?

I actually agree with fiscal conservatives ... no matter how good a program is, you have to ask: "is it worth borrowing money for?" The answer should be no in all but emergency conditions.

Everyone has different ideas about "what the most important thing to spend our money on" should be. But taking care of the casualties should be a priority and taken into consideration when contemplating war. Yet another reason not to enter into a war lightly. I am old enough to remember the crap the Viet Nam vets had to endure. We take care of our veterans much better these days.

Depending on the situation the VA does indeed pay for living expenses, provide healthcare for dependents through a program call ChampVA assisting tuition for the spouse and dependent children etc etc etc. Even base privileges and the MWR program. The veteran is also entitled to vocational rehab if they chose to.

Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors

the wounded warriers fund is doing great things for our wounded soldiers when they come home missing arms and legs, mentally damaged, or otherwise in need of help.

We should all support this worthwhile group.

Why can we afford to give planes and tanks to the muslim brotherhood in Egypt but not afford to give these wounded heroes everything they need?

This has been bothering me for some time. I would like to know how the rest of you feel about it.
Because the Republicans are running the government silly...

Obama reduced the number of homeless vets by 45%!
Trump Increased the number of homeless vets by 14%!

Here's the only thing that bothers me about the charity - from Wikipedia

According to Charity Navigator, WWP allocates 55 percent of its revenue to program expenses and 44.8 percent to fundraising and administrative expenses. [3] From Charity Navigator Rating - Wounded Warrior Project

I would like to see a lot more go directly to the families.

However, as another poster pointed out, these are things the government through the VA should be doing. However, our present administration is doing everything it can to take away from veteran's programs to push the socialist programs of Obama.
It was a scam charity and if the GOP would allow a tax hike on the bloated rich, Democrats could spend it on good stuff...

Not really. I donated to Wounded Warrior's for a couple of years, until I found out about this.

The Senate Judiciary Committee began looking into the Jacksonville-based nonprofit’s finances after the I-TEAM and national media investigations revealed reports of lavish spending on employees and not post 9/11 veterans.

The committee’s investigation is ongoing, but the I-TEAM alerted Senate officials Tuesday that there were new tax documents for the committee to review.

The documents reveal that Wounded Warrior Project received $372 million in donations over the last fiscal year -- $60 million more than the year before.

Take the $372 million, plus other revenue like $11 million in royalties and $13 million in investment income, and Wounded Warrior Project’s total revenue last year adds up to $398,698,187, according to the documents.
Where do your donations to Wounded Warrior Project go?

And like so many donation funds it's always best to find one where your dollar is actually going where you intended. Hopefully Wounded Warrior has cleaned up it's act, but I cannot find a link that verifies it.
