Freddie Gray dies a week after being injured during arrest

Freddie Gray, a Baltimore man injured during an arrest by Baltimore police last week, died Sunday at Shock Trauma, prompting protests by city residents and out-of-town activists and promises from city officials for a thorough investigation.

Gray, 25, died a week after he suffered a broken vertabra after being arrested near Gilmor Homes in Sandtown-Winchester.

Police have not given a cause for Gray's injuries or specified why he was arrested, citing an investigation into the incident. Officials are expected to look into any criminal conduct by Gray and whether criminal charges against officers are warranted.

As a family attorney raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Gray's death, his stepfather, Richard Shipley, said relatives were too distraught to talk.

"He's gone," Shipley said. "What else is there to say?"


TV news said they partially severed his spine.

RWs will celebrate another black man murdered but the rest of us need to demand that this brutality stop.

Now this incident is suspicious and makes absolutely no sense. How does a normal guy go from perfectly fine to severe spinal injury just from an average arrest?

I have never seen someone get harmed, by quietly surrendering to police, and doing exactly as they are told.

The latest left-wing hysteria is "Black Lives Matter" -- based on the lie that black lives don't matter because white police kill blacks wantonly.

The problem with the mantra and the hysteria is not that no blacks are ever killed unjustifiably by police. The problem is that it is so rare as to constitute a libel.

In 2013, of America's 6,261 black homicide victims, more than 6,000 of them -- 97 percent -- were killed by people other than police. About three percent of black homicide victims were killed by police. And of that three percent, nearly every one was armed and dangerous. To label that an epidemic of police racism is a libel.

In addition, more than 9 in 10 blacks murdered were murdered by another black person. Now that is an epidemic -- an epidemic of black murderers. (In response, it is pointed out that about 83 percent of whites are murdered by whites. But there is no equivalency here. Blacks murder at eight times the rate of whites -- 34.4 per 100,000 versus 4.5 per 100,000.)

Point remains.....if you do commit a crime...serious or minor....and you completely cooperate and dont flee and dont fight....your odds of being hurt by a cop is about the same as hitting the Powerball lottery. Sure...SOMEONE somewhere each year will be that unfortunate 1 in a billion.

What SHOULDA happened is the cops shouldve done a full spinal exam on him before putting him into the van.

In fact...Obama should pass an executive order mandating all cops take EVERY arrestee no matter the offense...straight to the ER for a full and thorough exam for EVERY possible health problem. No wait...thats a car ride.

The cops must hire medical swat teams to evaluate EVERY arrest before they get handcuffed. Yep. A brain surgeon. Trauma surgeon. Dentist. Psychologist. ENT specialist. They need several crews available 24/7....and every single arrest must get an on sight full medical eval before being handcuffed.

They'll ride in big medical vehicles...rolling ERs.

Running from police is a good indication that your spine isnt severed. I know its confusing and all but running requires an intact spine. I learned that in biology class

What we know: Gray was arrested on a weapons charge in a high-crime area of Baltimore known for drugs. He "gave up without the use of force," according to Baltimore Deputy Police Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez.

An officer apparently took his Taser out and was prepared to use it on Gray, but he never deployed it, Rodriguez said. And none of the six officers involved in the arrest describe using force against the 25-year-old.

Gray was placed inside a police van and was able to talk, said Rodriguez, who described Gray as upset.

Gray was taken into custody a week before he died of a spinal injury.
"And when Mr. Gray was taken out of that van, he could not talk, and he could not breathe," according to Rodriguez.

The phrase "without incident" in a police report means "we didnt use force on him" beyond the standard handcuffing. It doesnt mean the guy wasnt hurt. It means he wasnt hurt during the arrest.

This case is very shady so far. Im waiting for the facts to all come out.

Any chance he was trying to be stupid and hurt himself in the van? Prisoners often head butt the police vehicles. I used to have them end up upside down due to them trying to slide their cuffs to the front and getting stuck upside down.

Hell....a fellow prisoner could've kicked and stomped his neck back there...and now is obviously not admitting it.
