The popular YouTuber just won a seat in the European Parliament with the overwhelming support from Gen Z in Cyprus. Fidias Panayiotou made his name for his YouTube pranks such as dodging bullet train fares and a hotel breakfast bill while travelling in Japan. The growth of fringe parties can be attributed to inflation and soaring energy prices, which are making people's lives difficult across Europe, and discontent is rising among them.
The 24-year-old has more than 2.6 million subscribers and - despite having no political experience - garnered the third-largest number of votes with 19.4%.
"It was a shock what happened, a miracle," said Mr Panayiotou.
He told state broadcaster CyBC: "The parties should take it as a warning that they must modernise and listen to the people."
