22 year old college grad objects to Merriam-Webster definition of racism - They're changing it!

Yeah, agree that an apology was unnecessary but that an update was overdue. A lot of young people SAY they're not racist. And they may not be because they don't see color like their parents and grandparents may have.

They often say (and we see it here in USMB ALL the time): "I can't be a racist because I never owned slaves or did anything bad to a black person" (etc). And by Webster's old definition, they were right. It was time for a change.

Kennedy has a solid future!
That is bullshit and I'm not surprised you are in favor of making it easier to disprove leftists when they
attribute everything they don't like to this nebulous ephemeral idea of "systemic" racism.

Believing in an inherent superiority, or inferiority, of those of another race IS racism. If it happens in your college, or police department or city hall or wherever there is literally no such thing anymore as "systemic" racism it's not surprising in systems run by human beings with their own prejudices and problems
that some people may experience some form of racism at some times.

But that, systemic racism, went out with the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and supporting legislation through the years. Show me anywhere in 2020 USA that "systemic racism" thrives in our country. Show me the institution where racism thrives unabated and undetected. Go ahead. Show me!

I'm not surprised this young woman who is a graduate our our "woke" education system is all proud
and happy she got Miriam Webster to buy into the lie but racism is exactly what it has always been for ALL races and that you are dumb enough to go along with the brainwashing is not surprising.

"It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn't only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word which is simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take "good", for instance. If you have a word like "good", what need is there for a word like "bad"? "Ungood" will do just as well."
...
"Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten."
...
"The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect. Newspeak is Ingsoc and Ingsoc is Newspeak,' he added with a sort of mystical satisfaction. 'Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?'"

it's a BLACK thing----that got popularized in the 60s.

It's good to have older dictionaries so one can see how language has changed (or manipulated in cases such as this). It also helps in understanding "original intent" of a writer.

I have a copy of Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary. In it, it lists the following words and definitions:

RACE, noun
1. The lineage of a family, or continued series of descendants from a parent who is called the stock. A race is the series of descendants indefinitely. Thus all mankind are called the race of Adam; the Israelites are of the race of Abraham and Jacob. Thus we speak of a race of kings, the race of Clovis or Charlemagne; a race of nobles, etc.

"racism" isn't in this dictionary; that term would be coined later. However, there is an entry for bigot, which would be a suitable equivalent:

BIG'OT, noun
1. A person who is obstinately and unreasonably wedded to a particular religious creed, opinion, practice or ritual. The word is sometimes used in an enlarged sense, for a person who is illiberally attached to any opinion, or system of belief; as a bigot to the Mohammedan religion; a bigot to a form of government.

So true and I couldn't agree more. The idea of "systemic racism " (that racism pervades throughout an entire
educational, governmental, legal, military, etc. framework) is just bullshit writ large and if it that were
indeed true then blacks have nobody to blame but themselves given historic civil right legislation passed in the early '60s to wipe out just such problems in a court system absolutely devoted to bringing down the full weight of federal law on any institution practicing institutional racism.

"Systemic racism" just becomes an all purpose representation for "racism I suspect, racism I can't prove,
racism I must be a victim of, etc.
This is not to say there is no racism in the world today, of course. It's to say systemic racism has become
the hiding place for blacks who possibly need a reason to explain why life isn't going so well for them.
It's like a 17th century farmer pointing to witchcraft for his misfortune.

This line of illogic just proves the Josef Goebels claim that the bigger the lie and the more it's told the more it
becomes the "truth". It stands alongside that other lie that comes out of black studies propaganda that blacks
cannot by definition be racist. They sure as hell can.

Kennedy Mitchum recently graduated from Drake University and lives in Florissant, Missouri, just a few miles away from Ferguson, where protests over the 2014 police shooting of Michael Brown helped solidify the Black Lives Matter movement.
"I kept having to tell them that definition is not representative of what is actually happening in the world," she told CNN. "The way that racism occurs in real life is not just prejudice it's the systemic racism that is happening for a lot of black Americans."
Merriam-Webster's first definition of racism is "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race."
Mitchum said she sent her email on a Thursday night and got a reply from editor Alex Chambers the next morning.
After a few emails, Chambers agreed that the entry should be updated and said a new definition is being drafted.
"This revision would not have been made without your persistence in contacting us about this problem," Chambers said in the email, which was provided to CNN.
"We sincerely thank you for repeatedly writing in and apologize for the harm and offense we have caused in failing to address this issue sooner."

"Systemic Racism" is commie speak for Free Markets.

it's a LOT MORE BULLSHIT than that. I am a child of the 1960s----came of age and went to college in the second half of the decade. (sheeeesh don't tell anyone my age) I even took some of the then NEW
sorta "black courses" ---like SOCIOLOGY OF MINORITIES and read the books----- the somewhat scholarly
DuBois----but also the crap like Eldridge Cleaver SOUL
ON ICE and lots of other silly stuff. The professors
were even more nutty and still are. Their model is not just current "racist america" They describe ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY in terms of the evil white----vs
WONDERFUL NOBLE TERRIFIC "BLACK". It is my
generation (the acid heads of the 60s) that have
spawned the CURRENT BULL SHIT INSANITY

No need for a new definition for "racism". If systematic racism is the problem, then simply use the term "systematic racism".
Considering liberals are In charge of all major corporations,Hollywood,Colleges,Public Schools,City Governments, Unions,The MSM..etc. If systemic racism exists it’s their fault.

Keep on bending over and grabbing your ankles.
I had a very smart roommate once who worked for Merriam Webster. That's what they do--they are constantly updating definitions and adding new ones, as words are used and added in the lexicon. It's pretty cool, actually. I don't know that they needed to apologize for "offending" her, but that is what they do.
If one does one's research, one will find that fellow leftist academics submit their definition of a word. The leftist academics review their fellow academics submission and if they agree, they enter it into their collection of definitions.
Here's a perfect example: NAZI. (The National SOCIALIST German Workers Party). This was a government-wide, massive program to socialize industry and help in getting people back to work, to end the depression brought on by the loss of World War I and the Treaty of Versailles. The government took over businesses and industry. The Communist government of the Soviet Union (Union of Soviet SOCIALISTS REPUBLIC), sent congratulations to Hitler for his win (Stalin had no idea that Hitler was also an ardent racist and ultra-nationalist that believed in Aryan superiority). Hitler was also fond of FDR and his "New Deal" and when it came to marginalizing a people, he merely replaced the US policies on blacks with Jews, but became murderous about it. However that's another issue. Anyway, Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini (who also got a congratulations letter from Stalin for Mussolini's Socialist agenda), all had one thing in common....SOCIALISM.
Now, the leftist academics who needed to define the NAZI government in the dictionaries, knew that they couldn't change their official titles of "Socialism," as they were there, staring them in the face, so instead, just added in that they were far-right extremist governments. A wording that couldn't be further from the truth. They were monolithic socialist governments that were authoritarian, oppressive and had become murderous to their own peoples and all had Marxism and Leninism in common. How do one-party governments behave? Fast forward to simply look at China.
1989...Tiananmen Square...thousands of peaceful protesters, simply sitting down and demanding, what? Freedom. The government sent in troops and massacred thousands. Fast forward to Hong Kong...a couple of million protesters, protesting for what? Freedom. The government sends in troops, beats, arrests and murders the protesters. Biden's response to Chinas actions..."they're not such bad guys." China: Seeing the growth of Marxism/Leninism in the US, publicly states that the private ownership of guns in America is a problem. Reason: Gee, they wouldn't want people to rise up against a Marxist/Leninist revolution. Biden: I'm going to take away your AR-15's. Millions have been funneled to Biden by Chinese donors from abroad.

Then class difference would also need redefinition, because that was occurring when the cigarettes were stolen in Missouri as well as when Floyd's breathing stopped. Racism's Other is now rumbling under the surfaces of Chaz, which latter is a replay of Copenhagen's Christiania.

If Biden is getting any support from the Chinese, suggested reading is Anna Politkovskaya's Vtoria chechenskaia (A Small Corner of Hell) and the sub-chapter Zheltoe na chernom (Yellow on Black). When did Chauvin find out that Floyd had the virus?

Well, of course, the dictionary agreed to change it.

In 2020 America, if certain people tell you to jump, you must only ask "How high, ma'am?"

Yep. Blacks think they have "privilege" to fucking whine and cry.

GHWB would like to once again request that you remove his image as you're avatar. He's quite frankly ashamed of your posts, and he LOATHED Donald. So did Barbara, and so do Jeb and Junior.

Harm and offense? That’s it. I’ve been harmed and offended due to MWs incompetence! There must be a payday here somewhere, right Mr. Lawyer?

She didn't claim to be "harmed". Merely got tired of white classmates telling her they couldn't be racists because - - - Just look in the dictionary, and besides .. they didn't own slaves!

By next year the now useless dictionary will read that saying all human lives matter is an indication of racism. Leftists will try to pass a law making it punishable by death.
Most liberals do not believe in capital punishment, so this is a load of garbage.
