and the Republicans want to give these people a payroll tax cut.

What good is a tax cut when you don't have a salary?

well as an employer of over 250 and watching that fall......

if you cut payroll taxes the that creates capital that i can spend by:

doing marketing to get more work.......buying software or hardware to better compete.....not cuting slaries across the board ....keeping an extra employee or two a bit longer hoping for work to break......retiring debt.....

or i can give it to the government and they can give it companies that have already proved they don't know what they are doing and "hope they change" and get it right this time.....

If we cut your taxes anymore, you'll just give it all to your ceo and vp's. You won't hire any more people than you need to.

Read this to see how much Reagan & Bush have already cut corporate taxes. And read about how corporations take advantage of our roads, schools, police, courts, actually MORE than the average citizen does, so they really need to pay their fair share of taxes. If you do away with anything, do away with the income tax.

So this is why the treasury is empty. You can't keep cutting taxes until corporations don't pay any. Did you even see the story that came out late last year? Most US Companies paid zero in taxes. How about the story about how firms like Lehman found a loophole that allowed overseas companies to avoid paying taxes when they sent their money back home? I don't think you people understand what the GOP did the last 8 years. I was warning you, but clearly you weren't listening, because you continue to parrot the GOP montra of more tax breaks. You lost, now it is our turn to lead.

So the economy has to get better. That means people making things and selling them and that means people buying them. Not buying things from China or Mexico, but from Americans. American employees and we need you to pay them American wages. If your company can't afford to pay American wages, we don't need you doing business in America.

Most of those people that lost their jobs will find jobs that pay less. That's a fact. So don't expect them to pay off their homes or buy new cars, or buy your products/services.

I heard cutting FICA would put $1500 in both the Employee & Employers pocket?

You can market all you want, no one is buying. Do you manufacture something or are you a service industry? We need more manufacturing jobs. Or, do you sell a company manufactured in another country? We need to give corporations that manufacture 70% of their product inside the US a tax break, and tariff/tax the ones that don't. That'll bring jobs home. Please don't scare us by calling me a "protectionist or isolationist". That's getting old.

I think corporations have been sending jobs overseas and hiring illegals, and even F1 legal worker visas, all to lower wages. When there aren't enough jobs, corporations get to lower wages.

yea that is what i will do ..... we are construction industry based .... all US based ... all local .... everyone must prove they are legal to work ....

which company do you run and how many people do you employ.....

Recent history disagrees with you. Business got their tax cut already.

When was that? I sure missed it. You can't cut taxes without lowering spending... and if you don't cut spending, government covers it costs through inflation ($5/gallon gas, check) and borrowing (another form of taxation yielding crappy job growth, check). Government can not spend money without destroying jobs, and you can be certain that some of the 1.8million jobs lost recently was precisely -because- of the bailouts and stimulus.

Prove it.

btw, if the only stimulus we get is cutting payroll taxes, I as an employer will put that money in the bank. I'm certainly not going to hire someone to produce something that no one has the money to buy. Or market a product that no one has the money to buy. I mean seriously, how stupid can you get?

That may be true in this country... but honestly, China and Japan has a gluts of savings and can actually afford buying things without going into debt. That's a market everyone is looking to exploit.

We need to continue to streamline government expenses and raise revenue. That's gonna cause pain. No way around it. We can't afford to bleed money in Iraq to corrupt providers.

Let's end the war and save a ton of money.

How has government been streamlined? The only way the government 'raises revenue' is through taxation, wonderful idea in midst of crisis, soon to be catastrophe!

How much has government been streamlined? That depends on the state. There have been cutbacks in my state.

The feds need to do more. We should not rule out reversing the Bush tax cuts. The tax system needs a change.

Hey Artty, in California they are giving out IOU's for state tax returns. One would think that they would do some spending reductions...but the socialists politicians can't seem to grasp that idea. They will be 45 billion dollars in the red next year. I guess you could call that streamlining....if your under the influence of LSD. By the way, I moved from that state because of their politics.

I recommend the Federal Government borrow a bunch of money they don't have to try to fix this problem. In the meantime, give the members of Congress a pay raise.

Ravi - Don't worry... Now that Obama is President I wouldn't be surprised to see payrolls add 600,000 in February... By the end of the year Obama will probably have the unemployement rate near 0%.
