74 school shootings in 77 weeks...Worth it's own thread.

If you want to remove guns from society feel free to repeal the second amendment.

How about a revision, sort of like we've done with drug laws? You don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water.

No need to change anything with the second amendment

We can require registration, licensing, background checks, assault weapons bans.....all within the legal bounds of the second amendment

All you mentioned are or have been done.

Wow, all of that hot air for a strawman. I clearly said gun death rate. Not violent crime. Try again.

I don't need to try again. It is a fact that countries calculate homicide rates differently. In the UK for example a death isn't ruled a homicide until there's a conviction.

I simply showed you two examples. But hey, stay stuck on stupid.

Says who? You?

Of course me. I've done my research. You should try to also.

Pardoned because you didn't do it?

I was pardoned because of the circumstances surrounding my case. White took all the facts into account and thought I deserved a fresh new start.

Oh, so you did do it. Yeah, you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun, let alone sell them.

While I typically disagree with lonestar on everything, I believe the law says he can own and sell firearms. So I'm ok with that. It's good to see someone get a second chance and not get in trouble again for a crime.

It is highly relevant as long as guns are the number one instrument of suicide as well as murder

Suicide is a completely different subject from murder.

A. Murder is illegal

B. Suicide isn't.

C. Guns do not cause either.

Guns account for two thirds of our murders and half of our suicides. Removing the weapon of choice has proved to work at reducing the numbers of both around the world

Actually most of them never had access to them in the first place.

Please show me a graph where gun deaths plummeted anywhere after stringent gun laws were implemented. And the one from Australia doesn't show that, so don't even bring that one out.

Only if you find a judge that ignores the constitution.

74 school shootings in the past 77 weeks.

Not 74 chemical bombings, not 74 stabbings, not 74 bows and arrows, not 74 hatchet attacks. The common denominator (do I need to define that term for you?) is guns.

If you Ammo-sexuals want to keep, sleep with and insert your guns into your privates because I really think it's that sick, then figure out a way to stop this epidemic.

This data tells me that the parents of these kids are pretty much out of touch with their kids, so start with them.

Do something besides shoving the 2nd Amendment in my face and whining about your fucking rights. Your rights end when innocent people who cannot protect themselves die.

Let's make a law where guns aren't permitted on any school campus....oh wait.....

How would that have stopped the school shootings?

I keep asking, and the question just keeps getting ignored.

Suicide is a completely different subject from murder.

A. Murder is illegal

B. Suicide isn't.

C. Guns do not cause either.

Guns account for two thirds of our murders and half of our suicides. Removing the weapon of choice has proved to work at reducing the numbers of both around the world
Guns are inanimate objects that WILL fire a projectile ONLY when a person pulls the trigger.
Guns kill people no more than hammers cause houses.

There is a procedure in place for revising the Constitution. Have at it.

And the Republican plan for stopping gun violence is "More guns!"

Great plan, Republicans.

Why not try raising the standard of living so that millions of Americans aren't so hopeless and desperate to the point that they commit crimes? Why not stop glorifying greed with a bunch of Ayn Rand bullshit so that our "culture" isn't so preoccupied with material possessions? As long as the American system is based on superficial consumerism and greed, people are going to continue to do whatever it takes to get themselves ahead, regardless of however many laws are passed.
W
As was stated, we need to change our culture. Republicans, however, are not the ones to do it.

The logical "plan" is to have less violent people on the street. Guns just sit there until someone picks them up.
Why not try raising kids that respect the rights and property of others? Why not try raising kids that consider education a priority? Why not raise kids to stay away from drugs?

You're damned straight we need to change our culture. Neither Republicans OR Democrats need to do it, however. PARENTS need to do it.

Lots of parents need to work multiple jobs now, makes parenting difficult. But that's what the right wants.

That's dead ass wrong! The LEFT wants poor people to coddle and fuss over. The right wants customers.

Parents need to work multiple jobs for several reasons. Perhaps they got involved in drugs at an early age and didn't finish high school. Perhaps they grew up in a culture where doing well in school is considered "acting white". Perhaps they did do well in high school and went on to college and got a degree in basket weaving or ethnic studies and aren't qualified for and real job outside of academia.
Look at your situation and ask what YOU can do to improve it. My situation is just fine, no thanks to you.

Suicide is not a mass shooting Newton equivalent.

Their families mourn them just the same

Yes, but there is no suicide related public policy that is relevant to mass shootings at schools.

Someone intent on committing suicide will find a way. Pills, jumping off a bridge, asphyxiation...take away guns and there will still be suicides.

Using such unfortunate people as Poster Victims to promote Gun Seizures is disgusting exploitation.

It won't stop attacks on schools by mentally disturbed narcissists.

Number one thing we need to do is fix our mental health system, and make it easier to place someone on a psych old.
Regulating guns won't do anything on this issue.

Many of our mass shootings are suicides
If you are going to go out, you might as well take some people with you

There are other methods of suicide.....pills, poison, gas, slittiting your wrists
But they give you time to change your mind. Once you make the decision to pull the trigger, you have a split second to change your mind

There are roughly 140,000 schools in the US between K-12, private schools and postsecondary schools. Of the 99,000 public schools, there are 50,000,000 students. The typical days of instruction is around 180 to 1855 days per year.

Since Newtown, there have been 28 deaths in 44 schools.

Tragedy? Of course. I can't imagine sending my child to school and they don't return home that afternoon.

Epidemic? No.

You do the math with the above numbers and determine if school shootings are the "new norm".

The common denominators in each case is mentally ill people bent on hurting someone and lack of protection in gun free zones. The solution is kind of a no-brainer......and it isn't to outlaw guns.

looks to me like schools are the problem. ban schools

Guns are inanimate objects that WILL fire a projectile ONLY when a person pulls the trigger.
Guns kill people no more than hammers cause houses.

Guns don't kill people......People with guns kill people

Hammers don't build houses......People with hammers build houses.

Whatever :eusa_hand: Guns are an efficient tool; nothing more, nothing less. Guns are not on drugs. Guns don't come from single parent families. Guns don't drop out of school.

Indeed. I'll also note that the cumulative body count of criminals and mentally disturbed people is FAR FAR FAR less than those of brutal totalitarian states which exterminate their own citizens for political reasons.

There's a reason why we have a 2nd Amendment.
