74 school shootings in 77 weeks...Worth it's own thread.

If universal concealed carry were allowed, most law-abiding citizens still wouldn't bother carrying. But a few would.

And a criminal who's thinking about mugging somebody, raping them, robbing a store etc., knows that. And he knows that, even though most people don't carry, there's still a pretty good chance that someone in the crowd probably has a gun. And he has no idea who.

But he knows a bullet may come from an unexpected direction, at any time, as he does his robbery or rape or whatever. And he has no way to defend against it.

A few truly insane whackos might go ahead and do it anyway. But a great many of them will simply never bother to rob the store or whatever he was planning to do. Some might even eventually find a different line of work.

And all without a shot being fired.

The biggest advantage of universal carry by law-abiding citizens, is that many crimes will simply never happen, that would have happened if not for the universal carry. Even though most people still don't bother carrying.

Hahahaha! Even CNN can do the math on the bogus 74 stat:

After Tuesday's shooting at an Oregon high school, many media outlets, including CNN, reported that there have been 74 school shootings in the past 18 months.

That's the time period since the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were shot to death.

The statistic came from a group called Everytown for Gun Safety, an umbrella group started by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a passionate and public advocate of gun control.

Without a doubt, that number is startling.

So on Wednesday, CNN took a closer look at the list, delving into the circumstances of each incident Everytown included.

Everytown says on its web site that it gleans its information from media reports and that its list includes school shootings involving a firearm discharged inside or on school grounds, including assaults, homicides, suicides and accidental shootings.

CNN determined that 15 of the incidents Everytown included were situations similar to the violence in Oregon -- a minor or adult actively shooting inside or near a school. That works out to about one shooting every five weeks.

Some of the other incidents on Everytown's list included personal arguments, accidents and alleged gang activities and drug deals.

CNN reduces school gun violence by 80% « Hot Air
Glad a news outlet took the time to go through and dispel the original article. Unfortunately it went viral throughout the world. And it is erroneous.

And I was right, you're a selfish ignorant asshole who isn't capable of rational discussion. You're probably an ex-con and/or mentally unstable and shouldn't be allowed to have a gun anyway. I can see why you're so scared.

I am an ex-con. However my records have been expunged. I now co-own a gun store and possess an FFL and can legally buy class III weapons.

What scares me are idiots like you that wish to strip away our 2nd Amendment rights.

If you were involved in a violent crime not only should you not be allowed to sell guns you shouldn't be allowed to possess one.

Yet the president let 5 of these SOBs go to mame, rape, and mass-murder with impunity.

Go figure......

Because laws do work if you implement the right ones. Its why every other 1st world nation has lower gun death rates than we do.

If criminals dont obey laws, should I assume you are in favor of overturning laws that outlaw rape and child porn? I mean, criminals are going to do those things anyway, right?

Comparing other countries to the US is disingenuous because the rates are calculated differently.

LOL, says who? You?

Well if you wish to believe that's not the case then you have to believe that the UK is 8 times more violent than the US.

According to the FBI, there were 1.2 million violent crimes committed in the US during 2011.

FBI — Violent Crime

According to the UK government, there were 1.94 million violent crimes in the UK during 2011.

www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171778_296191.pdf

There are almost exactly five times as many people in the US as in the UK – 314 million vs. 63 million.

The violent crime rate in the UK is 3,100 per 100,000, and in the US it is 380 per 100,000 population.

However, the FBI defines "violent crime" as one of four specific offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

The British definition includes all “crimes against the person,” including simple assaults, all robberies, and all “sexual offenses,” as opposed to the FBI, which only counts aggravated assaults and “forcible rapes.”

The legal definition of "intentional homicide" differs among countries. Intentional homicide may or may not include infanticide, assisted suicide or euthanasia

Because laws do work if you implement the right ones.
That's certainly true.

For example, if we were to implement a law that said everybody could carry, most people still wouldn't bother. But a few still would... and some guy contemplating knocking over a store or mugging an old lady, or shooting up a shopping mall, would know most people didn't have a gun... but somewhere in the crowd, a few did. And so he'd ber a lot more likely to turn around and walk away without doing anything.

All we need, is that law saying anybody can carry.

Oops, I guess we already made that law. It's in the Bill of Rights.

So it looks like we need one more requirement: We have to OBEY the laws we made.

Most the mass shooters are suicidal, the idea of some one being armed won't slow them. Look at the Vegas shooting. Only people killed were armed.

If you were involved in a violent crime not only should you not be allowed to sell guns you shouldn't be allowed to possess one.

I was convicted of a violent crime. I was given five years on an assault w/intent conviction. I was incarcerated for nearly three years and then paroled. In the early 80's I was granted a full pardon and had my records expunged thank to Gov. Mark White.

Pardoned because you didn't do it?

I was pardoned because of the circumstances surrounding my case. White took all the facts into account and thought I deserved a fresh new start.

74 school shootings in the past 77 weeks.

Not 74 chemical bombings, not 74 stabbings, not 74 bows and arrows, not 74 hatchet attacks. The common denominator (do I need to define that term for you?) is guns.

If you Ammo-sexuals want to keep, sleep with and insert your guns into your privates because I really think it's that sick, then figure out a way to stop this epidemic.

This data tells me that the parents of these kids are pretty much out of touch with their kids, so start with them.

There are roughly 140,000 schools in the US between K-12, private schools and postsecondary schools. Of the 99,000 public schools, there are 50,000,000 students. The typical days of instruction is around 180 to 1855 days per year.

Since Newtown, there have been 28 deaths in 44 schools.

Tragedy? Of course. I can't imagine sending my child to school and they don't return home that afternoon.

Epidemic? No.

You do the math with the above numbers and determine if school shootings are the "new norm".

The common denominators in each case is mentally ill people bent on hurting someone and lack of protection in gun free zones. The solution is kind of a no-brainer......and it isn't to outlaw guns.

Even if you desire an UZI?

One can obtain automatic weapons with the proper federal permit so sure why not an UZI?

The point that is sailing over your head is that I passed every background check necessary to get my concealed carry permit and my fingerprints are on file like a common criminal's.

I should not have to be subjected to more checks because some idiot killed somebody with a firearm.

Would you want to be forced to take a field sobriety test a breathalyzer and submit a blood sample every time you wanted to drive to work because some idiot drunk driver mowed down a bunch of kids?

I would not be opposed to every motor vehicle having a Breathalyzer conjoined with the starting motor which would prevent a driver over the legal limit from starting his car. I doubt the local gun shop has an UZI on the shelf, and I doubt anyone can obtain a permit to buy one. So, not only is your response a non sequitur, it is also, at best, a half-truth.

There is a local gun shop 1.5 miles from my house that has a couple uzis and even a Ma deuce on display. They do not come cheap, though. The M2 is $12K. And yes, just about everyone who can pass the background check to get a concealed carry permit, can get an automatic weapons transfer permit.

The problem with this list and with anti gun nuts in general is its all bullshit. most of these incidents did not involve a school shooting at all. A student from school x comits suicide. its on this list as a school shooting. shote reported heard near school y, it makes the list. kid brings toy gun to school, it makes the list. some guy kills his wife near the school it makes the list. no wonder no one takes these idiots seriously

74 school shootings?

Psh small price to pay to avoid waiting times and background checks to buy guns.

It's apparently the price liberals are willing to pay to keep secret the names of mental defective people so citizens have no idea that they are not supposed to have a gun. But the liberal retards have no problem publicizing list & address of lawful gun owners.

Libtards also create gun free zones & glorify shooters who massacre the people made helpless when disarmed in these death trap gun free kill zones.

74 glorified gun free zone shootings in 77 weeks, keep up the good work Libtards. I am confident you can get it up to once a week.

If universal concealed carry were allowed, most law-abiding citizens still wouldn't bother carrying. But a few would.

Why wouldn't they choose unarmed citizens? Easier pickings

i can get anything i want. even in a state where most of its banned. it just doesn't come from a gun shop. pass all the laws you want. guns will still be out there and available. all you do is prevent legal gun sales.

And in that time there have been about 700 children drowned, most in swimming pools.
28 times and yet, it rarely makes national news.

Gang bangers are armed to the teeth yet they have no reservation in engaging in shootouts with other gang bangers

Why wouldn't they choose unarmed citizens? Easier pickings

Its not about robbing random citizens, its about turf for drug sales. Robbers are usually the customers of the gang bangers.

And so he'd be a lot more likely to turn around and walk away without doing anything.

All we need, is that law saying anybody can carry.

Oops, I guess we already made that law. It's in the Bill of Rights.

So it looks like we need one more requirement: We have to OBEY the laws we made.

Cute story. What color is the sky on your planet?

Apparently when a liberal gets refuted, he starts ranting hysterically like this.

Help is available. :cuckoo:

So on your planet, what does refuted mean? Because you are using it in a way that doesn't make sense in how we use it here on this planet.

I disagree with that he did. But lets not pretend they're hanging out at American schools.

If everyone wants to own a single shot musket, I'm all for it. Let's not pretend that the weaponry we have today is even remotely similar to the arms we've had throughout the history of our country.

Using your logic, Free Speech should be limited to posting handbills on the walls of buiildings as the internet didn't exist in 1776. So, let the NSA spy on us and the government censor us!

Hopenchange!

You just proved my point. We live in a much different world today than our founding fathers did. You're just too dumb to realize you agree with me.

Thanks turnip.

You are a moron.

And an example of why the Founders wrote The Constitution to protect minorities from Mob Rule.

Wow, all of that hot air for a strawman. I clearly said gun death rate. Not violent crime. Try again.

Oh, so you did do it. Yeah, you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun, let alone sell them.

And thats the rub

Robbers will choose targets because thats where the money is
