74 school shootings in 77 weeks...Worth it's own thread.

Using your logic, Free Speech should be limited to posting handbills on the walls of buiildings as the internet didn't exist in 1776. So, let the NSA spy on us and the government censor us!

Hopenchange!

You just proved my point. We live in a much different world today than our founding fathers did. You're just too dumb to realize you agree with me.

Thanks turnip.

You are a moron.

And an example of why the Founders wrote The Constitution to protect minorities from Mob Rule.

Yeah I'm a moron that you agree with. What does that say for you? Ha!

74 school shootings in the past 77 weeks.

Not 74 chemical bombings, not 74 stabbings, not 74 bows and arrows, not 74 hatchet attacks. The common denominator (do I need to define that term for you?) is guns.

If you Ammo-sexuals want to keep, sleep with and insert your guns into your privates because I really think it's that sick, then figure out a way to stop this epidemic.

This data tells me that the parents of these kids are pretty much out of touch with their kids, so start with them.

Do something besides shoving the 2nd Amendment in my face and whining about your fucking rights. Your rights end when innocent people who cannot protect themselves die.

The problem with this list and with anti gun nuts in general is its all bullshit. most of these incidents did not involve a school shooting at all. A student from school x comits suicide. its on this list as a school shooting. shote reported heard near school y, it makes the list. kid brings toy gun to school, it makes the list. some guy kills his wife near the school it makes the list. no wonder no one takes these idiots seriously

So someone who uses a gun to commit suicide is not considered a shooting? Really.

This list above is accurate, and CNN's analysis of it was misunderstood. This is a quote from the actual source:

"Everytown identifies a school shooting as any instance in which a firearm was discharged within a school building or on school grounds, sourced to multiple news reports per incident. Therefore, the data isn’t limited to mass shootings like Newtown—it includes assaults, homicides, suicides and even accidental shootings. Of the shootings, 35 took place at a college or university, while 39 took place in K-12 schools.""

Suicide is not illegal so it should not be counted.

Gang bangers are armed to the teeth yet they have no reservation in engaging in shootouts with other gang bangers

Why wouldn't they choose unarmed citizens? Easier pickings

Gang Bangers do rape, rob, destroy property of, beat & shoot easy picking unarmed citizens. Revenge for a killing is the main reason they engage in shootouts with other gang bangers. Then there are drug sale turf wars & crazy addicts trying to rob them.

And the Republican plan for stopping gun violence is "More guns!"

Great plan, Republicans.

Why not try raising the standard of living so that millions of Americans aren't so hopeless and desperate to the point that they commit crimes? Why not stop glorifying greed with a bunch of Ayn Rand bullshit so that our "culture" isn't so preoccupied with material possessions? As long as the American system is based on superficial consumerism and greed, people are going to continue to do whatever it takes to get themselves ahead, regardless of however many laws are passed.

As was stated, we need to change our culture. Republicans, however, are not the ones to do it.

Obama has more security than anyone else. Considering he's in a position where he may be threatened, did he decide on less weapons for his own security? Hell, no. He decided to be better armed than those who might threaten him. You see how that works?

The logical "plan" is to have less violent people on the street. Guns just sit there until someone picks them up.
Why not try raising kids that respect the rights and property of others? Why not try raising kids that consider education a priority? Why not raise kids to stay away from drugs?

You're damned straight we need to change our culture. Neither Republicans OR Democrats need to do it, however. PARENTS need to do it.

Irrelevant to gun crimes or gun violence.

We can't make everything that causes parents to mourn something to be legislated.

It is highly relevant as long as guns are the number one instrument of suicide as well as murder

Suicide is a completely different subject from murder.

A. Murder is illegal

B. Suicide isn't.

C. Guns do not cause either.

Guns account for two thirds of our murders and half of our suicides. Removing the weapon of choice has proved to work at reducing the numbers of both around the world

How about a revision, sort of like we've done with drug laws? You don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water.

No need to change anything with the second amendment

We can require registration, licensing, background checks, assault weapons bans.....all within the legal bounds of the second amendment

Fine, everyone who wants to own a gun needs to be trained to the same level as the Secret Service. Deal?

LOL, says who? You?

Well if you wish to believe that's not the case then you have to believe that the UK is 8 times more violent than the US.

According to the FBI, there were 1.2 million violent crimes committed in the US during 2011.

FBI — Violent Crime

According to the UK government, there were 1.94 million violent crimes in the UK during 2011.

www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171778_296191.pdf

There are almost exactly five times as many people in the US as in the UK – 314 million vs. 63 million.

The violent crime rate in the UK is 3,100 per 100,000, and in the US it is 380 per 100,000 population.

However, the FBI defines "violent crime" as one of four specific offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

The British definition includes all “crimes against the person,” including simple assaults, all robberies, and all “sexual offenses,” as opposed to the FBI, which only counts aggravated assaults and “forcible rapes.”

The legal definition of "intentional homicide" differs among countries. Intentional homicide may or may not include infanticide, assisted suicide or euthanasia

Wow, all of that hot air for a strawman. I clearly said gun death rate. Not violent crime. Try again.

I don't need to try again. It is a fact that countries calculate homicide rates differently. In the UK for example a death isn't ruled a homicide until there's a conviction.

I simply showed you two examples. But hey, stay stuck on stupid.

Lots of parents need to work multiple jobs now, makes parenting difficult. But that's what the right wants.

Pardoned because you didn't do it?

I was pardoned because of the circumstances surrounding my case. White took all the facts into account and thought I deserved a fresh new start.

Oh, so you did do it. Yeah, you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun, let alone sell them.

Yes I pled guilty. There was no denying what I had done and given the same circumstances I would do the same thing again in a heartbeat.
