90 million not in work force, UE down .5% in 56 months

Liberals like me said it would be tough to come back from the devastation of the Bush Recession.

The stimulus helped a lot, but the GOP took the House in the Elder White Panic election of 2010, and the progress we were making stopped.

Conversely, the economy was rocking along under Bush until the Democrats took over in 2006.

who one votes for is there business
with that stated I am not sure why any-one would vote for this type of govt
The GOP is not much better, I will agree. The amount of spin going on right now to prop up Obama would be funny if there is not so many people hurting right now

you have more people leaving "the work force" than getiting jobs
that is a net 0 in the job creation
those people end up on wellfar, medicad, etc...

I ask 1 simple question with this matter
why is ND UE rate 3%?

Jobs. But sadly ND is not PC.

They have jobs because they have a resource that the private sector is allowed to locate, extract, ship, refine and then sell
I was rasied in Florida. A state that has more poverty in it than you could imagine.
Why?
There is no hope for the working person. All they have is tourisim and housing. There is an abundunt amount of oil in florida as wll as Natrual gas that could be extracted, shipped, refined as well as sold. This would create a trickle down wealth event that would force those who are selling homes (condos, etc...) to retirees to pay a real wage
I left home 30 years ago because there is no hope in Florida for a person who works in the trades
The cross florida barge canal was stopped many years ago and killed any chance of industry
Simply put it does no-one any good to keep something un touched if your starving to death while protecting it
There is a common place in which industry and the enviroment can work in tandum to create wealth. BHO has not allowed this to happen sense he was elected

I like North Dakota because it did not turn away from the opportunity fossil fuels offered. It is one of the few states that still seems immune to the PC state of mind.

I also think that Florida may need to change the basis for the state's economy, but it will take a bit more to convince the majority of residents that this is necessary. As you know, Florida was successful largely based on tourism and to a smaller degree its agriculture (citrus and beef). The 70s changed the dynamics of Florida's tourism with the condominium boom and citrus production has pretty much dried up (Brazil sells it cheaper). Light industry and construction were the other drivers of Florida's economy but neither are presently capable of replacing the revenues generated from tourism. Florida could attract heavier industries and exploit the energy deposits that exist, but many fear that it would be at the expense of tourism. In South Florida most of the voters are adamant that any kind of change to Florida's economy is bad. Look at how long they have been fighting against casinos - which would have been great for the state. Maybe the next generation of retirees will be more open-minded, but real change won't come anytime soon.

No matter how you tell that story
it is the truth

The bureaucracy of starting and running a business in Florida today is mind-boggling. Maybe it is because I can compare to how it was before. I really don't know how some small business owners survive. Every city, county and state official seems to have created a regulation that requires a fee or tax of some kind. The level of services keeps going down but the demand for money is always on the rise.

It is a royal mess

Looks like more conservative contradictory goals

They want an economic recovery at the same time they cut spending. Doesn't work like that........You end up with a stagant recovery

Which is what we got

How does taking money away from me and giving it to another person create anything?

Every major economic collapse in this country has recovered through increased spending. FDR did it, Reagan did it

Obama is the only President where they demanded an economic recovery while slashing government spending

FDR had people dying in the streets, Obama still has not managed to recover anything but Harding got us out of a depressing and into a booming economy by cutting regulation and spending, all in 18 months.

You lose, again.

Firemen inherit messes too, ever see one put gas on it?

Interesting metaphor...

Obama did inherit a mess. Losing 770,000 jobs a month, a crashing stock and housing market, five quarters of negative GDP, auto companies failing

And as a fireman he was expected to put out the fire while Republicans did everything in their power to cut off the water for his hose

By "putting gas on it" it refers to Obama adding trillions of dollars in new debt to our national debt. He merely hooked his hose to a gas pump.

I will pity you poor liberals when Ben Bernanke decides to end quantitative easing, which is allowing you to claim the economy is recovering.

What a riot.

If you believe it's the role of "government" alone to sustain an economy and create jobs. When in truth the economy becomes stagnant when you clog the artery of job growth with a flood of new business regulations, the threat of higher taxes to keep up with Obama's wasteful spending, and a delayed Health Care plan that even Federal Employees and unions try DESPEEATELY to stay away from through exemptions. Obama hasn't been able to stimulate long term growth, only offer the same temporary solutions of infrastructure and incentives into programs (like the Chevy Volt that's a failure in production).

Over -all Govt is the problem, not the solution
case in point
we went from spending 2.7 trillion Under a GOP congress and president to 3.5 in 09 with a very liberal congress and president
In fact we have spent over 2 trillion dollars more sense (the govt has) than we would have under GWB base-line
its nuts to make the claim that govt spending has been cut

Blaming the government has some merit, no doubt there. But the private sector isn't doing their job either, yet people refuse to acknowledge that fact.
When companies are posting record profits, it's pretty damn obvious that government isn't choking the private sector via regulations as much as suggested by some posters. Companies are not investing (capital investment) in themselves to create jobs and to enhance their competitiveness.
As usual as with most problems of this magnitude, there's plenty of blame to spread around.
