A large order of McDonald's fries costs about $126 in Venezuela

Weird, all of europe uses social-democracy and has some of the highest living standards on the planet. Venezuela is just a shit hole so can you please stop using it for why we shouldn't educating our children or help people?? Thank you
Venezuela uses exactly the system you endorse, "social democracy." The countries of Europe you refer to are all capitalist countries, almost exactly like ours.

Why would Big Mac "bring back fries after getting rid of them last year" according to the A.P. Is the A.P. the source for the entire convoluted story? Why would MacDonald establish itself in South America if nobody could afford to spend a week's wages on a order of large fries? Nothing makes sense in the story. Doesn't South America produce cooking oil and freaking potatoes?

Long term socialism has never worked for any good in all of history, now if your into the making of dictators... Socialism is your government.

The goal of socialism is communism

The story is about Venezuela, not all of frikken South America. Your belief that all the countries of South America are indistinguishable is hilarious. You're the archetypical ugly American.

I work with a guy from Columbia...Venezuela is comprised of the Super Rich and the Super Poor.
Sort of like some areas in the US.
BTW, the Super Rich have to have their own army to protect them.

of course they do

they also make sure there is gun control for the "others "
Yep, life ain't easy when you have a corrupt government.

You mean it's not easy when you have socialism. All socialist governments are corrupt. In fact, all government, period, is corrupt. The amount of corruption in a country is directly proportional to the amount of government it has.

the article was quite clear that the black market system is alive and well

and the peoples of the area can still pick up black market fries regular 64 cents extra large a buck 15

--LOL

Spare us. Our "poor" are fabulously wealthy by Venezuelan standards.

Well, yeah. Any society that capitulates too much to a governing body is going to suffer the consequences of non-competitive tyranny before long.
The issue is how to educate people at a young age to take responsibility for their own responsibilities and exult in their achievements.
My kids knew I paid bills for utilities, a mortgage, etc... by the time they were 10.

Why are people still eating McDonalds? Is it even food? South America has great food. They don't need McDonalds fries.

True, but you and I resent having to pay the taxes to subsidize them and the MNCs.

Last I heard the countries in South America weren't at war with each other. It's ludicrous to assume that some smart capitalist couldn't ship a load of potatoes and a gross of cooking oil and set up a stand on a Venezuela street. Your assumption that South Americans aren't smart enough is indicative of an ugly American viewpoint.

The issue is limiting government. Socialism fails whenever it's tried. Venezuela is just one more case study for the ash heap of history.

Can they do such a thing without government intervention.
I understand Columbians are fighting the thug gangs.

They can't do that because the government won't allow it, moron. What part of "socialism" didn't you understand?

McDonalds is the ultimate Evil American Corporation. And its food, if you wanna call it that, is poison. Venezuela will be much better off without it.

All systems fail eventually because rules pile on as abuses kick in.
There are abuses from the poor who want to be rich the easy or criminal way as well as abuses from the wealthy.
History is not on your side.
