This is what I believe. We know the difference between someone with "American Traits" of old. Hell, Canadian Traits of old. We had men who roughed the seas to find the New World. We had men who built for their country, signed documents to secure the liberty of their citizens. Politics wasn't a career to riches, it was a duty, not unlike military service today.

Without such people leading a nation, a nation will be in decline. If an oligarchy takes over, perhaps never to return.

The cycle has played out numerous times in numerous places throughout human history. The builders create a great civilization/society and then it gradually falls into decay when the citizenry get too comfortable and complacent. The system isn't bad but the people running it are, and most likely the US will fall into that same trend.

I think of the cartoon movie Wall-E. That is Western leadership today. Never needing to leave their chair. Being overfed and underworked, prospering off of the inventions and efforts of others. The same people they try to undermine.
