You are discounting Tweeden’s recollection of the events?

Just because he did something bad before he was elected, doesn’t mean that should affect his standing in the Senate.

In an extreme case, what if he admitted to raping a woman in California in 1977. He would be in danger of losing his seat in the Senate, even though the statute of limitations has expired.
