I found this linked at extranosalley.....and it points out that most Americans are intelligent...and know that only they can protect themselves when they are confronted by a violent criminal attacker.....

Americans Prefer Living in Neighborhoods With Guns - Rasmussen Reports

American Voters overwhelming prefer living in a neighborhood where they have the option of owning a gun than to live where nobody is allowed to be armed.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 22% of Likely U.S. Voters would feel safer living in a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun over one where they could have a gun for their own protection. Sixty-eight percent (68%) would feel safer in a neighborhood where guns are allowed, while 10% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Since there are no communities in the US were "nobody is allowed to be armed", that is kind of a silly poll.

Pretty dumb poll. Where is it illegal to own a gun in the US? Public schools keep graduating people that lack critical thinking skills.

There are no gun laws here, but that does not mean I need a side arm to weigh down my britches..I didn't really care to carry them in the Army, just extra weight....

New Jersey, New York and California come to mind....in New York and New Jersey ( as we saw last week when the woman was murdered waiting to get her permit) It can be almost impossible for a law abiding citizen to get a permit to carry a gun for self defense.....

And Chicago and Washington D.C. had bans on owning guns.....

No, it is not impossible. You cannot get a driver's license immediately. You have to register to vote. Nothing wrong with requiring a permit to carry a deadly weapon. And the key word in your last sentence is "had". Not anymore.

you can't be PROPERLY armed in a great many cities/states. Like NYC, the entire state of Mass, Chicago, most CA cities etc. if you aint good buddies with the sheriff or the police chief, you can't have a pistol, even in your home. THAT is why, when we push thru a CCW law, it says that the cops SHALL issue your permit. That language means that they MUST give it to you. NOT 'give it to you if they FEEL like doing so"

actually...if you aren't a criminal there is everything wrong with requiring a permit to exercise a civil right......much like there was nothing wrong with the democrats charging blacks a poll tax to vote or making them pass a literacy test to vote......the 2nd Amendment defines a Right.....and that Right cannot be infringed.......unless we allow it....

Try getting a gun in New York......or even better try to get a concealed carry permit to carry one...or New Jersey.....

The gun ownership you libs keep talking about will be like our healthcare.....you can legally own a gun...but actually getting the permit to own it is impossible...but you can still own one......

Just like Chicago used to be...you could own a gun...you just couldn't register it in the city.......

Can be difficult in some areas that require a permit or 30 day wait. I prefer it here (VT) where there are no gun permits and anyone 16 and over can buy and own a gun.

Gun laws in Vermont - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia

Here is a place to start...from the one of the biggest gun grabbing nutter groups.....

What Are the Best and Worst States for Second Amendment Fans TheBlaze.com

At the top of Brady’s “best” (the most restrictive) states are:

  • California
  • Connecticut
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Massachusetts
  • Hawaii
Yes, there are some states where it is harder to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The poll question asked "Would you feel safer moving to a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun or a neighborhood where you could have a gun for your own protection?" That question has nothing to do with concealed carry or open carry. There is not a single city, county or state where "nobody is allowed to own a gun." The results of this poll have no relevance at all to questions regarding gun control. Contrary to the lies of the NRA, gun control does not mean banning guns. There are extremists who would ban guns, just as there are extremists who think that there should be absolutely no restrictions on weapons. The majority of us, in the middle, agree that law abiding folks should be allowed to own and carry guns for their protection. We differ only on how that is to be regulated.

Just curious, but why did you ignore the part of the poll that stated that most did support strict limits on semi-automatic and assault type weapons?
