Zone1 Are Asian-Americans “The New Jews”?

You can post your bullshit cart all day, and it doesn't become less bullshit.

If the Cato Institute had their way, only the rich would get educated.
I often disagree with what Cato recommends, but I respect their integrity. Where is there evidence that spending more money on trying to educate the illegitimate children of single mothers and violent street criminals improves their academic performance?

Where is there evidence that more social reform and social welfare spending reduces the crime rate?

Democrats almost always think the answer to a problem is to throw more (of other people’s) money at.

Education is an example. In DC, the amount of money spent per pupil is almost twice that of neighboring Fairfax County, and yet the Fairfax County kids have much superior scores and grades.

....

Where is there evidence that more social reform and social welfare spending reduces the crime rate?

Is it your personal belief that MORE uneducated, penniless, hopeless young people out in the streets will reduce the crime rate? Really?

The thing is, CATO thinks the government spending money on ANYTHING that might take dressage horses away from the rich is a waste, so of course, their graph is going to relfect that.

The problem is, their chart shows ALL public school students, black and white. Scores have remained about the same. Not sure why they should get any better, really. You are always going to have some bright kids and some dumb kids.

What you need is equality in resources.

That's not true, either.

DC School average spending - $20,675

Fairfax County average spending - $16,505

So while marginally less, certainly not "half" as you claim.

Of course, there's more to it than that. City schools have to spend more on security. They have to spend more on ESL and EIP programs. Of course, like most big city schools, they have to spend more on administration. But the real difference is the suburban schools are more affluent and can attract a better quality teacher.

What reduces the crime rate is more punishment for criminals.

From 1961 to 1968 the prison population in the United States declined from 220,142 to 187,274.

During this time the crime rate per 100,000 people rose from 1,906.1 to 3,370.2

United States Crime Rates 1960 t0 2019

The 1960's was a time of broadly based economic growth.

In 1980 the total prison population in the United States was 503,600. By 2019 this had grown to 2,086,600.

During this time the crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants had declined from 5,950.0 in 1980 to 2,489.3 in 2019.

So you see that punishment works. From 1980 to 2019 poverty increased because of cuts in welfare spending and because the economy had become more competitive.

The high cost of incarceration can be reduced by the thorough exploitation of prison labor, the frequent use of capital and corporal punishment, and the end to educational and recreational opportunities.

In addition, we need to give the police more funding, and more power.

Why should we waste good resources on bad students? If you think all but a tiny minority of the illegitimate children of unmarried welfare mothers and violent street criminals can be educated, spend a year or two as a substitute teacher in slum schools.

I have talked to people who have tried to teach those "at risk youths."

What you don't seem to get is WHY the prison population increased after 1968.

War on Drugs. Tricky Dick decided that those fucking hippies who opposed him could be cleaned up by enforcing the drug laws more vigorously. That's why the prison population has increased.

Probably didn't help that Ronnie Ray-gun was letting the Contras bring in Crack Cocaine by the truckload, either.

And the Democrats are heading us off in the wrong direction….decriminalizing crimes and eliminating bail for the purposes of “racial equity.” We see the results.

The real difference is the suburban schools have a greater percentage of married parents who emphasize the value of education as opposed to the inner-cities with single parents, often with drug problems.

What you say is true. The Democrats have learned nothing from the failures of the 1960's, just as Republicans have not learned that tax cuts for the rich do not balance the budget, and they do not benefit people who are not rich.

Holding someone in prison who isn't dangerous for months or years because they can't afford bail is unjust.
Pre-trial incarceration should be for ONE purpose... to keep dangerous people off the streets. When the murderer can afford bail but the turnstyle jumper can't, that's an injustice.

We lock up 2 million people. We criminalize too many things in this country.

The real difference is the suburban schools have a greater percentage of married parents who emphasize the value of education as opposed to the inner-cities with single parents, often with drug problems.

Actually, a large number of those suburban parents are divorced. But they get alimony and child support. Again, you are mistaking racial inequities for merit, like more racists do.

What you say is true. The Democrats have learned nothing from the failures of the 1960's, just as Republicans have not learned that tax cuts for the rich do not balance the budget, and they do not benefit people who are not rich.

Except the 60s isn't where this country went wrong, the 80's were.

bullshit

We could ask a black member but they're probably out pushing some helpless little old Asian lady down a flight of stairs
Since most of the attacks on Asians have been by whites, it more likely than a white person is doing it.

It's funny how white racists have decided to adopt Asians as pets.

Because:

A new report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce (CEW) finds no strong evidence of discrimination against Asian American applicants in admissions to highly selective colleges.

Under SAT-Only Admissions, Asian American Applicants to Selective Colleges Would Gain Fewer than 3,000 Seats Out of 120,000, Georgetown University Report Finds
21% of Asian American students at the most selective colleges would not have been admitted under a test-only admissions policy

Asian American applicants face lower acceptance rates at highly selective colleges compared to other racial and ethnic groups, but they are also much more likely to apply regardless of test scores. Even if standardized test scores were the only factor considered in admissions, the Asian American share of enrollment at selective colleges would increase by no more than 2 percentage points. The data do not support the claim that selective colleges adjust the number of Asian American students they admit to maintain a long-term racial balance of students.

“If we used test-based merit as the singular admissions requirement, the gain for Asian American applicants would be marginal,” CEW Director and lead author Anthony P. Carnevale said. “But on the flip side, 21% of Asian American applicants who were previously admitted would no longer qualify.”

Do you just make up lies with nothing to support it? The majority of attacks on Asians have been by blacks, and next by Hispanics.

In 2019, the most recent year I can find the stats, of the 20 attacks on Asians, 11 were by blacks and only two by Whites.

There is not much that can be done to teach the illegitimate children of unmarried welfare mothers, and violent street criminals. With notable exceptions they turn out to be just as worthless, useless, and dangerous as their parents.

Republicans think the answer to a problem is more tax cuts for the rich. They are equally mistaken.
