Article V Convention is Coming

A movement of nutters, started by a nutjob. Dream on boys.

In 2006 the dems got good momentum......

In 2008, they finished a two year process that crushed the GOP. Had the senate...the house, the WhiteHouse.

Chris Matthews and others were saying the GOP won't get a majority for AT LEAST ten years. Some said the GOP was dead. Time to roll out the new America.

But in early 2010, Robert Gibbs and Evan Byhe whispered that the dems could lose the house. NO WAY I thought. How could that happen. Just to get some seats back would be incredible. Then it picked up. All thanks to the Tea Party. JakeTheFake seems to forget that. By the summer it wasn't they could...it was...they would.

And they did. The unthinkable had happened.

So....you bet we'll keep dreaming. You just stay complacent and tucked away in your Obamablanket. We'll see you soon enough.

and Karl Rove spoke of perpetual GOP majorities. Hubris will always bite you in the ass.

It seems to frighten the same people.

Not frightening, but troubling that there are those such as the OP who seek to hide their agenda of hate behind the façade of ‘bringing back’ the Constitution, when in fact the seek only to destroy the Founding Document.

Otherwise, the reactionaryism, ignorance, and naivete exhibited by the OP, the Pauls, and those who agree with them are remarkable examples of a political anachronism.

Funny, that's more or less how I'd describe the statist agenda you champion.

CCJ claims the Constitution says whatever the USSC says it says, but are the ones who want do destroy the document. Talk about "ignorant" and "naïve."

He's cattle ready for the abattoir.

Did Rove lose his in two years after basically running a crushing campaign ? Did anyone really believe him ? I certainly thought the GOP was dead and buried for at least eight years. I never would have imagined getting the house back sooner than that.

Not that it matters.....

The point...if you care to stop and think about it.....is that all this "dream on" crap is just that.

I think the commerce clause is perhaps that part of the Constitution which has been most abused by the judicial branch of our government. As bripat said, ObamaCare pretty much made that clause completely meaningless once and for all.

It's coming folks: The article V convention to propose new amendments to the Constitution. Lbiturds, your reign of terror is over:

Whether in early 2017 it’s President Hillary Clinton, President Jeb Bush, President Chris Christie, President Joe Biden or someone else, the individual occupying the Oval Office would face new limits on executive orders, Commerce Clause actions, a balanced federal budget and a ban on using international treaties to govern inside the U.S. if a state-based movement is successful.

There could even be term limits for Supreme Court justices and Congress, and a mandatory sunset of all existing federal taxes.

The ideas are being discussed in legislatures where a Convention of the States has been proposed, according to an organization known by that very name.

The Convention of States Project, launched by Citizens for Self Governance, is working to have state lawmakers call such a convention through the Constitution’s Article V.

Thousands of Americans already have signed on in support of the idea that Americans, themselves, need to address Washington’s massive spending, over-regulation and takeover of authority from states.

State lawmakers in Alaska, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and elsewhere are now looking at plans that if approved would be submitted to Congress in support of a convention.

Michael Farris, who has been know for years as the face of the Home School Legal Defense Association and Patrick Henry College, now is on the front line of seeking a convention in which state delegates would meet, agree on a path for the country and then tell Congress what will happen.

Tell Congress?

Exactly that, if the amendments are proposed at the convention and ratified by the states.

The organization proposes a convention for “the purpose of limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.”

“We believe the grassroots is the key to calling a successful convention,” the promoters say. “The goal is to build a political operation in a minimum of 40 states, getting 100 people to volunteer in at least 75 percent of the state’s legislative districts. We believe this is very doable. Only through the support of the American people will this project have a chance to succeed.”

Among the issues that could fall under the single subject would be a balanced budget amendment, a new definition of the General Welfare Clause, a redefinition of the Commerce Clause, a ban on the use of treaty provisions inside the U.S., limits on executive orders, term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court, federal tax limits and a sunset of all existing federal taxes.

“Of course, these are merely examples of what would be up for discussion,” the promoters say. “The convention of states itself would determine which ideas deserve serious consideration, and it will take a majority of votes from the states to formally propose any amendments.”

you do know this doesn't mean the confederates are coming back right?

You know, of course, that this Constitutional COnvention, even if it happens, cannot change the Constitution, right?

As the OP said, it can only propose amendments. It basically takes Congress's place, where Congress usually proposes amendments by passing them with a 2/3 majority of each house.

Anything that Congress (or a Const Convention) passes this way, must still be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Or else it goes in the trash can.

-----------------------------------------------

Funniest part of this whole proposal to have an Article 5 Constitutional Convention to propose amending the Constitution is....

The problems we are having, are not due to the Constitution being inadequate.

They are due to Big-Government fanatics (in both parties) violating or ignoring it.

How will amending it, change that? The leftist fanatics will just go right on violating or ignoring the new amendments, too.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. That's why any concern about a "runaway convention" are unfounded. That's a scare tactic by those who are comfortable with the status quo.

The statists are terrified of an Article V convention precisely because it's a way to get around Congress and place limits on their power. Congress would never approve a Constitutional Amendment imposing term limits on them, but such an amendment is wildly popular with the voters. So is a balanced budget amendment. I also think an amendment to repeal the 16th amendment would easily get approved by 3/4 of the state legislatures. Getting the other proposed amendments approved is more problematic.

The statists are quaking in their boots at the thought all this.

Nope. Not happening.

But what a party that would be!

Hi G5000
Something is happening. In the progress of human and social development, OF COURSE people and nations head toward economic/political independence and self-government.

All events occur within this process.

It is like how people grow from dependent two and twelve year olds,
to independent teenagers, adults and then mentors/elders in families and communities.

The same pattern collectively occurs with nations and the world.
Colonies start off dependent, then grow in partnership under the protection of a parental country or government, then eventually grow to claim their independent identity
and right to sovereignty to govern themselves.

Churches break off into smaller subgroups when they no longer agree on centralized
control and "one policy fits all" top down management.

Cities and townships do the same, and territories form states.

Even when states form a union, they insist on retaining their local sovereignty
and only want national protection and intervention where they consent.

this is the political process all humanity goes through.
we fight over territory and jurisdiction, between states and nations,
the same way individuals fight for control in relationships, until we come to agreed rules of partnership and domain.

We are just in different stages at different times, but all that we
see and experience is part of this collective human social development.

Yeah, like Obamacare. Libturds are the kings of simple solutions to complex problems.

And it is time for the consitution to be allowed to work as it is set up to do by reigning in the politicization of decisions by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Yeah, like Obamacare. Libturds are the kings of simple solutions to complex problems.

actually, healthcare reform was never (by either major party) billed as being simple to fix or reform

They should allow him to pardon more turkeys at Thanksgiving.. Force him to eat ham to make sure he is not a Muslim,,or Jew.

My, my . . . look at all the desperate attempts to divert attention from this thread. It will happen. People are fed up with Washington, and they know it can't be reformed internally.

Some people are fed up with Washington, others are fed up with anti government clowns like you. If you don't like what's going on in Washington, be specific and put our country first not some lame ideology.

What you seem unable to comprehend is most Americans abhor extremists, most support change when it is well thought out and pragmatic - and that is not the lame and extreme ideology of people like you. We, those of us in the middle, see no difference between you and the Symbionese Liberation Army - though as fucked up as they were they at least put their life on the line and didn't spend their time hiding behind a keyboard.
