Article V Convention is Coming

50 States times 3/4 = 37.5 States.

Guam is kind of like 1/2 of a State. That should do the trick.

Thanks for the correction. 38 States to ratify.

Still very difficult to do.

As the country continues to go down the tubes it will get easier.

Right now Congress has only a 10% approval rating, but they keep getting elected anyway. By any definition this is tyranny.

Polls show that about 80% of Americans want term limits in Congress and about the same number want a balanced budget amendment for the federal government. The movement should run on these two things alone. We have the will of the American people on these two subjects. Clouding it further with more amendments right now would just cuase the process to derail easier.

Keep it simple.

The 17th and 16th Amendments have to go. I think hatred of the income tax and the IRS verges on 95%.

The unrestraied power comes from two sources. The Federal Income tax and the Fed. Both allow the federal government to simply throw money at everyone on planet earth to do their bidding or be cut off.

A balanced budget amendment woud do just that. If you then throw any more wrenches in the system you are asking for trouble in my opinion. Remember, they can go back and do this as many times as needed. The first order of business is to set a precendent and get the ball rolling and send a message to the federal government.

Ending the income tax given our debt is impossible.............Placing a Flat tax on everyone without any deductions would generate revenues actually greater than we take in now..............I actually did a IRS study based on data for 2012 that showed a net increase of basically 250 Billion Dollars for the same year. Did that a while back.

Doing so would actually allow the IRS to be greatly reduced, as you could file a return on a post card.

The income tax is a major source of oppression. People and corporations spend hundreds of billions of dollars every year dealing with it's endless and arcane rules. It's a vast avenue of graft and extortion for members of Congress. They use it to squeeze corporations for campaign donations. It needs to be ended.

Furthermore we need to cut spending drastically, not increase revenues.

Flat taxes end the thousands of pages of regulations.....While we should cut spending with a chain saw, we still need to get rid of the debt and the interest on the debt. We can't pay that back without revenues.................It's Reality..............and a necessary evil...................

We could bring back the Red State Tax Plan instead, which requires every state to pay the bills of the Federal Gov't based on the percentage of population and the amount of spending. If states get that bill they would be less likely willing to create more spending when the bill comes to their doorstep.

Government - Interest Expense on the Debt Outstanding

415 BILLION spent on the interest on the debt for 2013

Bring back the red state plan. Then every state could be like mississippi and kentucky. Dirt poor and ignorant. Hope there's a provision that the confederate flag can fly proudly above the american flag.

How is getting rid of either of those two abominations a "monkey wrench?" Getting rid of the income tax will be a positive boon to our economy. A major source of corruption and government control will be eliminated. Getting rid of the 17th will mean the states will be in control of Congress rather than visa-versa. How could that possibly be bad?

I'd like to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my ass

This thread is as successful as the Ron Paul campaign.

It seems to frighten the same people.

Not frightening, but troubling that there are those such as the OP who seek to hide their agenda of hate behind the façade of ‘bringing back’ the Constitution, when in fact the seek only to destroy the Founding Document.

Otherwise, the reactionaryism, ignorance, and naivete exhibited by the OP, the Pauls, and those who agree with them are remarkable examples of a political anachronism.

The Constitution has already been destroyed by scum like you. The Supreme Court has "interpreted" it to the point where it's meaningless. The decision on Obamacare was the final straw. On the one hand, it wasn't a tax for the purpose of whether they could rule on it, but then it was a tax when they handed down their decision. They obviously don't care what the document actually says or even the dictates of simple logic.

Without even reading the opening article, I can guess that this "movement" was started by some right-wing slave state organization still carrying on about Confederate "state's rights" to openly hate women, blacks, Latinos, gays and lesbians, etc. etc. etc.

The South lost. Get used to it.

Does your ignorance know any bounds?

A movement of nutters, started by a nutjob. Dream on boys.

This has to happen. The Federal government has overreached to the point that it IS the tyranny that the Founders tried to avoid, and warned us all about. Our elected have forgotten this and it has gotten to the point that they don't represent OUR interests but theirs. We elect them to safeguard our liberty, NOT run our lives.

Funny, that's more or less how I'd describe the statist agenda you champion.

Well that was just plain stupid.

It's coming folks: The article V convention to propose new amendments to the Constitution. Lbiturds, your reign of terror is over:

Whether in early 2017 it’s President Hillary Clinton, President Jeb Bush, President Chris Christie, President Joe Biden or someone else, the individual occupying the Oval Office would face new limits on executive orders, Commerce Clause actions, a balanced federal budget and a ban on using international treaties to govern inside the U.S. if a state-based movement is successful.

There could even be term limits for Supreme Court justices and Congress, and a mandatory sunset of all existing federal taxes.

The ideas are being discussed in legislatures where a Convention of the States has been proposed, according to an organization known by that very name.

The Convention of States Project, launched by Citizens for Self Governance, is working to have state lawmakers call such a convention through the Constitution’s Article V.

Thousands of Americans already have signed on in support of the idea that Americans, themselves, need to address Washington’s massive spending, over-regulation and takeover of authority from states.

State lawmakers in Alaska, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and elsewhere are now looking at plans that if approved would be submitted to Congress in support of a convention.

Michael Farris, who has been know for years as the face of the Home School Legal Defense Association and Patrick Henry College, now is on the front line of seeking a convention in which state delegates would meet, agree on a path for the country and then tell Congress what will happen.

Tell Congress?

Exactly that, if the amendments are proposed at the convention and ratified by the states.

The organization proposes a convention for “the purpose of limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.”

“We believe the grassroots is the key to calling a successful convention,” the promoters say. “The goal is to build a political operation in a minimum of 40 states, getting 100 people to volunteer in at least 75 percent of the state’s legislative districts. We believe this is very doable. Only through the support of the American people will this project have a chance to succeed.”

Among the issues that could fall under the single subject would be a balanced budget amendment, a new definition of the General Welfare Clause, a redefinition of the Commerce Clause, a ban on the use of treaty provisions inside the U.S., limits on executive orders, term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court, federal tax limits and a sunset of all existing federal taxes.

“Of course, these are merely examples of what would be up for discussion,” the promoters say. “The convention of states itself would determine which ideas deserve serious consideration, and it will take a majority of votes from the states to formally propose any amendments.”

God bless them and their intentions, but this is sending an army of babes against the Hun invasion. Won't happen, too many hands in the cookie jar, the vested interests have total control.

A movement of nutters, started by a nutjob. Dream on boys.

In 2006 the dems got good momentum......

In 2008, they finished a two year process that crushed the GOP. Had the senate...the house, the WhiteHouse.

Chris Matthews and others were saying the GOP won't get a majority for AT LEAST ten years. Some said the GOP was dead. Time to roll out the new America.

But in early 2010, Robert Gibbs and Evan Byhe whispered that the dems could lose the house. NO WAY I thought. How could that happen. Just to get some seats back would be incredible. Then it picked up. All thanks to the Tea Party. JakeTheFake seems to forget that. By the summer it wasn't they could...it was...they would.

And they did. The unthinkable had happened.

So....you bet we'll keep dreaming. You just stay complacent and tucked away in your Obamablanket. We'll see you soon enough.
