I was assaulted by a white dude. He wasn't wearing a hoodie, but he was walking around at night in filthy jeans with no shirt on, something respectable people generally don't do, even in Arizona. Did I feel any safer when I realized someone was following me and looked back and saw a white guy instead of a black guy (or, because this is Arizona, a Hispanic guy)? Hell, no. A dangerous bum is a dangerous bum, regardless of race and ethnicity.

You're also not between ages 15 and 25, which is the prime age group for crime.

Also true. As a woman, if I have to be out after dark and realize that someone is following me or close to me, I feel less threatened if I look back and see that that person is middle-aged, rather than a young man between 15-25, regardless of the race. It's simply a statistical fact that I'm in less danger from a man over that age. (Which doesn't mean I feel entirely safe.)

I know all about car doors locking, windows rolling up and daughters being hidden. If you think blacks get a lot of that, try being a biker for a while.

Years back, I was one of 10 motorcycles riding in a column, obeying all the laws when a white guy in his 40's failed to yield and sideswiped one of the motorcycles. The bike went down, killing the passenger and seriously injuring the rider. He lost his right leg and was in a coma for several days.
The rest of the group was able to avoid wrecking.
The car driver, understandably, stayed in his locked car until the police arrived.
When the cops finally talked to him, he said, "They are only a couple of bikers." The cop was suspended for 2 weeks for beating him near senseless.

The asshole got 10 years for homicide with a motor vehicle.

I get my pockets turned out, and my car searched. I figure its because everyone knows the whit power guys are always rocking the meth right ? I was even addressed as " convict " one time . Say, you ever see.a bunch of bikers hit the buffet at a casino ? I love that. The place clears out and you are able to get at the yummy stuff.

Some of that is probably true as the President pointed out.

However, what happens is this. Zimmerman kills an un-armed black kid and in the eyes of some blacks there is no justice. So if you're in Sanford, Florida and you are black and you may find yourself in the situation where you're having to walk around at night; you probably should arm yourself. I couldn't blame anyone for doing that given the verdict.

It's probably hard to project pacifist, passivity, and kindness when you have to arm yourself and continuously check to see who may be behind you.

Zimmerman killed a guy who apparently attacked him. Before you go on about racism, you should find out about Roderick Scott's shooting of Christopher Cervini.

The lesson in all of this is that Dr. King, of course, was right.

Before siting statistics like that maybe we should look at the system rather than the individuals? Maybe it is just that the system is stacked against black people? Just throwing that out as I am not sure. Maybe it is stereotypes that cause this disparity? Maybe it is the fact that so many young black youths who get into trouble just don't have the financial wherewithal to hire a good defense lawyer? Or maybe it is just that the white male is assumed innocent until proven guilty and the reverse is true for the black male? Maybe it is a combination of a lot of things. All those statistics prove is that the percentage of black males who end up in prison is much larger than the percentage of white males. The question that needs to be answered is; why is that the case?

I'm just throwing questions out not stating facts.
