Bo Bergdahl 'Skates'

He probably needs to move away from Idaho.

Most of those folks up there don't take kindly to people like him.

That was printed almost three and one half years ago, and the arguments were not found to be true in the court-martial.

The court-martial did find several had been wounded.

Military makes little effort to punish deserters

There is no crack team of bounty hunters, no elite military unit whose job is to track them down and bring them in.

Despite a rise in desertions from the Army as the Iraq war drags on into a fifth year, the U.S. military does almost nothing to find those who flee and rarely prosecutes those it gets its hands on.

An Associated Press examination of Pentagon figures shows that 174 troops were court-martialed by the Army last year for desertion — a figure that amounts to just 5 percent of the 3,301 soldiers who deserted in fiscal year 2006. The figures are about 1 percent or less for the Navy and the Marines, according to data obtained by the AP under the Freedom of Information Act.

Some deserters are simply allowed to return to their units, while the majority are discharged in non-criminal proceedings on less-than-honorable terms.

A coward trying to protect a coward

It's not working

Fact is

Most deserters face no other punishment than dishonorable discharge

this was an aggravated case------he seems to have GONE OVER TO THE ENEMY------the present WAR ON TERRORISM is actually considered an undeclared war.
------the schmuck committed treason

Berghdal also provided valuable intelligence about the Taliban when he returned. He had close up knowledge of their organization and tactics

How did he get that while being in a cage?

There was psych testimony, and Trump commenting in the recent past did not help the Prosecution:

Dr. Charles Morgan, a forensic psychiatrist and professor at the University of New Haven and Yale University, testified Wednesday that Bergdahl suffers from numerous mental illnesses, including schizotypal personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as social anxiety/phobia and cognitive deficits.
Symptoms of schizotypal personality disorder include brief psychotic episodes that "are not as frequent, prolonged or intense as in schizophrenia," according to the Mayo Clinic.
Morgan said he interviewed Bergdahl's friends and family and did extensive testing on Bergdahl, including psychiatric evaluations, stress exams and neurological psychological testing. Based on the results, Morgan said Bergdahl was suffering from schizotypal personality disorder and PTSD before he enlisted in the armed forces, adding he "falls clearly into the profile" of someone who had schizotypal personality disorder by the time he enlisted.

I agree, an easy sentence, IF he can retain mental capacity; Danny Rolling was allowed to plea, and be executed, AFTER he was on psych meds.
I'm also surprised he got no time to serve. Maybe the judge took into account that he probably never should have been assigned in the first place. Go figure.

that's good----I am actually satisfied with the sentence-------sorta ------I cried when I read the "EXECUTION OF PRIVATE SLOVAK"

"The judge, Col. Jeffrey Nance, sentenced Bergdahl to a reduction in rank, a payment of $1,000 per month for 10 months and a dishonorable discharge, according to multiple reports.

Bergdahl pleaded guilty last month to charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. He faced a maximum sentence of life in prison."

...during war time. The SOB could have ... probably should have ... gotten the death penalty, a life sentence at the very least.

Judge rules no jail time for Bergdahl

You can thank Donald Trump for that. Trump's ill-advised comments left the judge in a position where he had to show he was independent of Trump. If Trump had not opened his mouth and made prejudicial comments, Bergdahl likely would have received a jail sentence.

Damn, there is an endless number of ways you snowflakes can spin things back to being Trump's fault... :p

Actually, if Obama had not celebrated the traitor at the WH as a 'hero' perhaps he could have quietly been dealt with as the deserter he was...

Bergdahl received the punishment he deserved consistent with the punishments of others who deserted in Iraq and Afghanistan

Nonsesnse, a good judge would never let outside pressure or distractions influence a decsion

More on the Army position, General Dahl was the investigater: and Trump's Judgement:

In 371 pages of sworn testimony, he told General Kenneth Dahl what he did, why he did it and what he endured during his five years as a hostage of the militant Haqqani network. The 15-6 is not classified, and at a September preliminary hearing on the case, Dahl testified that he does not oppose its release. But the Army won’t budge.
_________________________________________

During the campaign, Trump called Bergdahl a "dirty, rotten traitor" and said he "should be shot" for deserting his post. "In the good old days, he would have been executed," Trump said.

See what happens when Trump doesnt stfu? But I bet that you think that Trump should be allowed to keep saying whatever the fuck he wants and you'll just only disagree with the outcomes of him shooting his stupid trap

Donnies call for a lynch mob to "shoot him or throw him out of a plane" showed the extreme prejudice being brought against Bergdahl

Don't be surprised if one of Trumps supporters resorts to vigilante justice
