DALLAS (AP) — A second health care worker at a Dallas hospital who provided care for the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the U.S. has tested positive for the disease, the Texas Department of State Health Services said Wednesday.

The worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital was monitoring herself for symptoms, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said. The unidentified woman reported a fever Tuesday. She was in isolation within 90 minutes, Jenkins said. :more:

Associated Press Chief Medical Writer Marilynn Marchione and AP reporters Martha Mendoza, Maud Beelman, Matt Sedensky and Alex Sanz in Dallas contributed to this report.

It says potentially....jeesh, how is it that none of the healthcare workers that worked on the mission workers didn't get ebola?

But sure, better to be cautious and equip all hospitals with respirators for each staff member.

It is just a matter of appreciating the nuance of how the pathogens spread. An ebola patient sneezing near you and you catch it, it is technically spread by air. There is no hard and fast rule that something has to be able to float around on its own to be considered airborne. Fortunately it does not survive long outside the body.

You can't be serious.

I was speaking of in the US, so your link is pretty silly.

Silly? These workers were also taking the same precautions, yet they got sick and many have died. We only hear about the US workers.

Incorrect. It has not been possible to take necessary precautions in third world countries. That is why Americans that have become infected have been brought to the US for treatment.

Now, with the military involved, that may change.

Except in low light, low temperature areas, as well as on non porous surfaces-

First off, viruses do not survive long on porous surfaces, such as fabrics for example. They can live longer on hard surfaces, such as metal and glass. As well, there have been lab studies showing that dried samples of Ebola virus can survive for days; but other studies have found the virus doesn’t survive more than a few hours outside of a host.
