[breaking] North Korean Leader Kim Jong Il, 69, Has Died

article well worth a look;

snip-

There is, perhaps, no totalitarianism in the world that is as all-embracing as North Korea’s. Something like it hasn’t existed since Stalin died (and with him a personality cult very much like that which surrounds the Kims). I have spent time in other police states, but even in some of the most vicious of them, an undercurrent of dissent ran like a subterranean stream through the back rooms of restaurants, bars and private meeting rooms. Even under Saddam Hussein, Iraqi cab drivers would glance around when pressed and spit out their hatred of the dictator. Dissidents in Myanmar, during the worst of the crackdown, would whisper their fealty to democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. In Vietnam, Saigon residents would raise their eyebrows and snort at the central planners in the North. In China, after Mao’s death, there was a reappraisal of his policies, and the Communist Party ultimately allowed that some elements of “Mao Zedong Thought,” like the disastrous Great Leap Forward of the ’50s or the Cultural Revolution of the ’60s, had not been successful…

It is too simplistic to attribute this mindset to a mere fear of repression or self-censorship. Yes, according to State Department human-rights reports and the few defectors to make it out of North Korea, there are gulags in remote areas for the wrong-thinking. But on the whole, there seems little in the way of independent thought to censor. One foreign resident of Pyongyang, when asked on our trip in 2000 if he had ever seen any evidence of dissent–even over drinks with North Korean associates–responded: “Never. Nothing.” North Korea’s regime has come the closest of any society to what Orwell called, in 1984, the literal inability to conceive an unorthodox thought. If one sets aside the fact that North Korea is an economic sinkhole, and that its freedom-loving enemies are crowding in upon it from every side, it may even be called the most successful totalitarianism in modern history.

Bush was installed by the Supreme Court the first time around. He lost the popular election by a million votes.

True Story #2

That's to bad. And puts to bed the notion that conservatives have more support then liberals.

Because you guys support that shit.

Pick up the Constitution once in a while or Google "Electoral College"

Thank God that Clinton/Gore picked Easter weekend to send the storm-troopers in to steal Elian and send him to Fidel, that made the difference in Miami Dade by making sure Cuban Americans punished Gore for supporting that Fucking faggot Communist Cuban Cocksucker

I thought they sent Elian back to his father

Only conservatives would want to separate a child from his parent

Yeah, that's his Dad

Bush had the chance to disarm Kim, but he shit the bed instead, going after a non-threat, leaving the real threat alone to manufacture nuclear weapons and sell nuclear know-how.

Oh, my, such historical revision.

Six-party talks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The six-party talks aim to find a peaceful resolution to the security concerns as a result of the North Korean nuclear weapons program. There has been a series of meetings with six participating states:
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea);
The Republic of Korea (South Korea);
The People's Republic of China;
The United States of America;
The Russian Federation; and
The State of Japan.
These talks were a result of North Korea withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 2003. Apparent gains following the fourth and fifth rounds were reversed by outside events. Five rounds of talks from 2003 to 2007 produced little net progress[1] until the third phase of the fifth round of talks, when North Korea agreed to shut down its nuclear facilities in exchange for fuel aid and steps towards the normalization of relations with the United States and Japan.[2][3] Responding angrily to the United Nations Security Council's Presidential Statement[4] issued on April 13, 2009 that condemned the North Korean failed satellite launch, the DPRK declared on April 14, 2009 that it would pull out of Six Party Talks and that it would resume its nuclear enrichment program in order to boost its nuclear deterrent.[5] North Korea has also expelled all nuclear inspectors from the country.[6]

Make some more shit up. If leftists didn't lie, they couldn't say anything.
Where were the six party talks with Saddam?

And Bush only (supposedly) SUSPECTED Saddam - but he KNEW for a fact that Kim was developing nukes.

What Obama needs to do with N Korea is stay the hell out of it. We need to get behind S Korea and have them sit tight while N Korea goes through it's transition

Obama needs to send Hillary to China ASAP. N Korea is Chinas problem. They need to step in and do whatever is necessary to get them in line.

A transition??

North Koreans know absolutely NOTHING about the world..... It's not exactly like they have a political model to compare their society to in order to have a feeling on the matter...

You do realize 99% of the North Koreans believe they're the most advanced civilization in history???

Why are you talking about 'North Koreans'? They have absolutely no say in any of this. It will be the North Korean military and a few upper government people who were close to Kim who will decide everything.

Show me where Saddam said he wanted talks.

He thanks you for your support, but regrets to inform you that he's dead.
And Bush only (supposedly) SUSPECTED Saddam - but he KNEW for a fact that Kim was developing nukes.
...which is why he conducted talks with Kim. Moron. :lol:

By all accounts, Elians dad was a loving father. It was American conservatives who attempted to keep his son from him because of political ideology

A sad day for the American right wing

Show me where Saddam said he wanted talks.

If that is the criteria, show me where Kim said he wanted talks.

He didn't. Bush did. So why didn't Bush want to have six party talks with Saddam?

The liberal media is sure gushing over Kim Jong Il.

Meade said he was smart and ruthless. Williams said that diplomats who dealt with him describe Kim as shrewd and calculating. Scarborough said that in a demented sort of way, brilliant. Haas called him tactically brilliant. Radchenko commented that he was a very cunning person and very smart person. Andrea Mitchell sounded infatuated with the guy when she said that he was profoundly important around the world. She added, "I actually met him when I traveled there with Madeleine Albright."

Albright went on about how he wanted to be a movie director and how he knew many American movies. He even had suggestions for Oscar nominations and also liked American sports. She said she could talk to him and didn't believe he was crazy like a lot of people said.

Are they envious of his power over the people in his country or what? Do they wish to immulate him? they are absolutely horrible when talking about the right, but get all dreamy-eyed when speaking about one of the most evil dictators on earth. It's sickening to listen to them gush like school girls over this guy. They show him a ton of respect when we should be relieved that one less piece of crap walks the earth.

The left is always overly kind to dictators like Castro and his ilk. I think they really admire these kind of people. Creepy.

Given Saddam's ignoring UN resolutions and the terms of the cease-fire he signed, what makes you think Saddam would have responded?

Well, he eventually responded:

Saddam: 'I am president of Iraq and I am willing to negotiate' | World news | The Guardian

You cried when he was executed, didn't you?

By all accounts, Elain's mother died getting him to American where he could be free of that Communist Cocksucker Fidel who liked to jerk his cock off while watching his political opponents get tortured. Like many American Leftists, Elain's father was a braindead Marxist tool.

Really now?

Gore's brother was the govenor of Florida, his campaign Manager was the secretary of state in Florida and 2 of the judges presiding in Gore v. Bush were appointees of his father's administrations?

Didn't know that.

He also lost by a million votes in the popular election?

:lol:
And SCOTUS ruled that Florida had to abide by their own election laws. They didn't "select Bush". The people of Florida did.

When will you give up this little dream of yours? No perp walk. No Hague. No trial for Bush.

And again..the election came down to a state where Bush's brother was governor and the secretary of state was his campaign manager with a SCOTUS that was populated with the appointees from Bush's father's administration.

Nothing to see here folks.. :badgrin:

In short -- to recount a close race is acceptable and that is exactly what happened. The vote-counting machines handed the win to Bush a SECOND time.

In a study of the Florida's ballots, the Miami Herald and USA Today reported George W. Bush would have widened his 537-vote victory to a 1,665-vote margin if the recount ordered by the Florida Supreme Court would have been allowed to continue, using standards that would have allowed even faintly dimpled "undervotes" -- ballots the voter has noticeably indented but had not punched all the way through -- to be counted.

Electoral Vote...

George W Bush 271

Albert Gore, Jr. 266

Bush won the popular vote in 60% of the 50 states,

Gore, winning the popular vote in 40% of the states

George W. Bush won 2,434 (78%) of the nation's 3,111 counties;
Al Gore won 677 (22%) of the counties

George Bush won 51 (77%) of Florida's 67 counties

Gore won 16 (23%) of the counties (primarily the population centers)

So you take the word of right wing pundits over people who actually met the guy. You may want to believe he was a raving lunatic but you don't maintain power for 17 years over a starving population without being very shrewd. Nobody is claiming he was anything but a tyrant.

By all accounts, Elians mother ran off with someone else and stole her son from the father. Conservative Americas attempt to prevent a young child from reuniting with his father was despicable

Have to admire how Progressives doggedly defend their heroes Fidel and Kim

Great minds think alike, Frank...
Coulter said much the same thing in "Demonic"...

'Liberals, it seems, would rather view all revolutions as under the auspices of mobs. Their fav revolutions are those impelled by hairy, foul-smelling revolutionaries like Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and Susan Sarandon.'
