So, I'm curious, the constitution says the seat of government, Washington DC was to be 10 miles Square. How then, did it become 68 miles square?

10 miles by 10 miles is 100 sq miles

Ok, i wasn't sure if by "ten miles square", of the constitution meant a 10 mile x 10 mile area, or a 10 sq mile area.

I guess, according to the constitution, as long as it doesn't exceed 100 square miles, it can be as small as they want, so, yes, they could just section out the government area as DC, and the rest could be made a state, or, as I have suggested, just relinquish the land back to Maryland.

Why not just give it back to Maryland? We all know the answer, you want the senators.

This has nothing to do with giving those people representation, and everything to do with giving the dems 2 more senators, which is why you never really had a big push for it, until now, its also why if dc were to produce 2 republican senators, it wouldn't even be a topic right now.

If it was really about giving them representation, you would be agreeable to letting Maryland reclaim their land, if that's what they wanted to do.

However as I posted earlier, all they have to do is draw the boundaries around the capitol so it's not in the new state.

They do have representation in the House of Representatives but she isn't allowed to vote. Which is ridiculous. How that can be allowed is beyond me but that representative should be able to vote. The people of DC don't have full representation in the House of Representatives.

All they have to do is draw the boundaries of the state around the area of the capitol. The capitol won't be in a state.

The boundaries have been changed before. DC used to be a square.

All the land on the other side of the Potomac was taken from it. The populated areas of what remains could be removed and made a state leaving the government building to satisfy the Constitution.
