Now here is some revealing information from the New York City health department's recent report on the city's COVID-19 case and death rates by age group. The report provides further evidence that a blanket/general lockdown is overkill, drastic overkill.
Per the health department's report, published two days ago, out of the city’s 8.4 million residents, there were 111,424 cases and 6,840 deaths.
The first fact that jumps out from the report is that not one of those 6,840 deaths was 17 or under. Another noteworthy fact is the drastic difference in the death rates between ages 0-64 and 65+. A third noteworthy fact is the difference in case rates between the age groups, especially between the first group and the other groups. A fourth noteworthy fact is the very low infection rate among ages 0-17.
Here are the rates (the rates are per 100,000--that’s how the report gives them):
AGE GROUP—CASE RATE PER 100,000 PEOPLE
00-17-----124.5
18-44-----1250.18
45-64-----1972.67
65-74-----2006.10
75+-------2254.40
AGE GROUP---DEATH RATE PER 100,000 PEOPLE
00-17-----0
18-44-----9.17
45-64-----76.9
65-74-----240.73
75+-------596.55
I have mentioned previously that in another report, the NYC health department noted that over 90% of the city's COVID-19 deaths were among people who had serious preexisting health issues.
