Confederate Flag vs. Ground Zero Mosque?

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

I imagine a lot of people fly the rebel flag as a sort of rah rah our team football mentality.

That doesn't detract from the fact that it symbolizes treachery and failure.

Only in your mind does it symbolize treachery. If it was true then Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and all Confedrate Government leadership would have been hung upon capture.
Original writings from the local whores confirm that Davis was, in fact, hung

This thread is funny...I will never figure out why people get so upset over the fact that the Southern states left the union because they wished to keep their slaves.

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.
Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.

OH I see, now the Ordinances of Secession matter? I said some a couple of state left the union because of slavery it can be found in their Ordinance of Secession. However, it cannot be found in every states Ordinance of Secession.

Fact: Individual states cannot secede from the Union/Compact.

But individual cities/counties/states can ignore Mexican invaders and pass sanctuary laws that undermine Federal immigration policy and make a haven for drug cartels?

I agree that that has something to do with it. But it's still just my opinion as it is yours.

But here is a fact for you: The southern states seceded BEFORE the emancipation proclamation.

True story

I didn't say they didn't matter, I said you need to read the other speeches they gave and documents they issued. It is their body of work that matters.

You implied they did not matter. so now you use one from one state to support your argument. Nope not going to work.

Is that yes I agree with you?

Um...no.

What does that have to do with anything?

Research do some research. The supreme court told President Johnson that he did not have the authority to try anyone for treason.
They also said you don't have the right to self-determination and self-governance if you don't feel like killing a lot of people

Then there's Dred Scott

the point? SCOTUS can be wrong
