Daryl is so far off base.. none of this is relevant in an impeachment inquiry..Placing this in what would be a court of law let's take a look at it.
House Inquiry = Gathering Information and Evidence
There are laws against not cooperating with the Police in an investigation or lying to the Police to evade prosecution. And it IS punishable by law and can involve both fines and imprisonment.
House Impeachment = Grand Jury
This hasn't happened yet. Right now, the House is operating much like the investigating Branch of a DAs office. But when they think they have a solid enough case, they can become what is essentially a Grand Jury and vote to make the charges formal.
Senate Impeachment Vote = Part of the Trial
Not the whole trial. The Senate can vote to condemn the President or drop all or part of all charges and elect not to remove from office. They aren't voting to impeach. That's already been done. They are voting for removal of office. The Senate cannot do anything else. It's either remove or not remove a President from Office. But they do confirm or deny the charges from the House.
Judicial Criminal Trial = The rest of the Trial
Once the President is removed or has resigned, the new President's Judicial Department has a lot of leeway as does the President. In Nixon's case, he was pardoned by Ford but he had half of his retirement taken and was stripped of his Law License in X number of states along with a fine. In Clinton's case, he was fined 60,000 dollars, lost his legal license in X number of states for 5 years in a deal with the new incoming President Bush, Jr. Even though neither were convicted by the Senate (neither would have been either) the Civil side was not satisfied and the Legal Boards wanted their pound of flesh. Both could have been tried after they left office without those pardons. And both pretty much got what they would have got had they been tried openly as civilians. The only difference was, the Nation wasn't put through any more embarrassment.
So, even after the Removal from Office, it's not done. Rump had better beware of how he treats the "Other Side". There is a chance (no matter how remote you might believe that may be) that he will be at their mercy (whether it is in 2021 or 2025). After viewing his actions, I firmly believe he thinks he will continue to win every battle for the rest of his life and die in office. That may be true. But also remember, most Narcissists die by their own hands or in the case of a violent Dictator, they......... I believe we need to have a full time Suicide Watch on Rump. If you think a failed Impeachment looks bad on the Nation, ever wonder what a Presidential Suicide would look like?
