Conservative. Liberal. Democrat. Republican. Left Wing. Right Wing.

No, I can't. So I generalize. Is there anything wrong with that?
No. Not if you are comfortable being similar to those whom you criticize.

We all generalize to some degree though. I'm not trying to set myself apart. Just call attention to it.

I'm not being similar to those I'm criticizing at all. This isn't something I've just decided is the case. I'm making a generalization and you know it's a generalization, which means MANY of those people in that category will probably fit what I've said and some won't.

Yes, you're trying to set yourself apart from it, however, do you believe that lots of people who have "manufactured opinions" are free thinkers or people who have literally had thoughts put into their brains?

And if you think they're free thinkers, then why can't they make a logical argument to save their life and often resort to insults every time they find themselves in an uncomfortable position where they either insult or confront their wrong views?
I have no rebuttal.

Except to say that by being similar I meant in generalizing. We all do it to some extent. And even those with manufactured opinions find some amount of truth in their generalizations.

I don't have a problem with generalizing, I do have a problem with people not being able to make an argument.

Recently I have been called a left winger, right winger, Liberal, etc, etc, etc. For any reason. So I did a little research, and to come to find out, there is not one I fully agree with. I may agree with ones philosophy, the other ideologies, another ones ideas, and another economic coordination, and disagree with others.
So what if you don't fully agree with any of them?
What would you be considered?
Is there a neutral?
Something in between, that agrees and disagrees with a little of each one?

It's a fairly long test, so I think the results are accurate.

I did the Political Compass test in June it was posted in another thread, below are my results, I think it's accurate, I have always been on the Authoritarian Right, I also agree with those who comment that I'm the most Right-Wing member of this forum.

Also I'm pro-Capitalism and anti-Socialism/Communism so I think the Economic section is accurate also.

I support freedom and the Constitution, so yea, I'm middle ground between up and down.

True enough. But nevertheless. I don't know her to be a religious zealot, a monarchist or a communist. What else is there?

fascists use violence, she doesn't come across as violent.

Not everyone fits into the definition.

Of course there is: Independent.

There are more Independents and Moderates than there are wingers (as I point out in my sig). We're just not as loud because we haven't convinced ourselves that we and our "side" have all the damn answers. We think the best answers probably include a bit of everything.

Thinking for yourself does require more effort, you don't get to be part of a little tribe, and you take incoming from both wings. But it's intellectually honest.
.

Great post, end thread!

I think of myself as liberal, in the classic sense. Some people call me a commie. For the life of me I can't figure why. :dunno:

Assuming that the question applies to Americans, then 'neutral' would be the values, attitudes and beliefs of the Founders.

Based on that, the Right is 'neutral,' or centrist.....and, while there is a Far Left that has seized control of the major political party.....

....there is no Far Right in this country.

If you doubt that......try to come up with any values, attitudes and beliefs propounded by the Right that run counter to those of the Founders.

There are numerous views, desires and attitudes of the Left, that are far, far from those of this nation.

Above all else, we are Individuals.

Not to the Left.
They are about the collective, or, as the French Revolution claimed....the 'general will.'

BTW.....the view of those who instituted that revolution was that any who did not subscribe to the 'general will' should be treated like rabid beasts, and put to death.
Hence, bequeathed civilization the communists, Fascists, Nazis....and modern Liberals.

Perhaps because you are both inarticulate and confused.

Could be?

Of course.

Lefties love to pin labels on people. You can be a social liberal and a fiscal conservative if you think you need a label or you can be a social conservative and a fiscal liberal.

Would you PREFER your neighbor be likeminded with you?
Would you PREFER your neighbor speak your language?
Would you PREFER your neighbor be "normal" and "conforming"?
Would you PREFER your neighbor be hard working, responsible and moral?
Would you PREFER your neighbor have faith in God?
Would you PREFER to share your acquired wealth with others?
Do you believe your Founding Fathers intended for the citizens of this nation to be likeminded, nationalistic, moral and faithful?

Remember, the key word is PREFER.....low grade folks don't usually have preferences...as preference often translates to an expectation and low grade folks hate expectations as they're aware they themselves are rarely able to fulfill anyone's expectation.
Do the math from here.

Consider that no matter what label you decide to use for yourself the Left will trash it.....

The Left is trashing our language and the very meanings of our words so that rational thoughts and ideas are not communicated....they don't want people to think but just follow their ideology...

The Left loves to use labels but is constantly changing the labels and/or the meaning of those labels....they may not make any sense but the whole idea is to stifle any real communication/reasoning and obscure who and what they really are...meaningful words and ideas get lost in the madness....

Stick to your ideas in plain English and forget about trying to label yourself because they really don't care....sometimes all you can really do is just scream back...
