I live on the gulf coast. Preparing for the worst is a real thing here. I've been through at least a dozen major hurricanes. The last one was Michael. You might have heard of that one. We were without power for 27 days. I didn't even have to touch the MREs. I keep a couple of months worth of non perishable food at all times. The thing that made me proud was how we all pitched in an helped each other out.

Since you are prepared, then defaulting is last thing you have to worry about.

Right now would be the worst possible time for another economic catastrophe. I'm trying to fight a fairly serious case of colon cancer. I don't have any chemo drugs in my hurricane supplies. I am working as much as I am able but a total loss of income would probably mean my certain death.

Two weeks ago S&P reported its tally of US companies going under is 236 in the first four months of this year alone, which is more than double than last year. And UBS study found number of companies worth $10+ million filing for bankruptcies are averaging 8 per week, which is double the peak level of the COVID lockdown bankruptcies.
