Democracy: Yes or No

As an Ultra-Conservative Authoritarian, I am definitely a “NO” vote when it comes to Democracy or any sort of Republican system of Government.

The masses have proven ourselves too stupid and immoral to live proper when given the option not to - so we need to have those options removed.
in other words you need somebody telling you when its ok to piss and shit....and above all....never question what you are told by your betters...

it is so rare that, "in other words" ever actually says anything resembling what actually came before.
if you dont know who anthema is you would not know why i said that....

Donald Trump's feud with Congress puts American democracy on the brink - CNNPolitics

For those, many who post on this message board, it seems they oppose universal suffrage and would prefer that only an elite should be eligible to vote.

For a long while some posters have denied we are a democratic republic, and prefer to use constitutional republic, some seek to overturn the 17th Amendment and some would require only property owners the right to vote.

Even the Supreme Court has watered down democracy in the two Citizen's United decisions and overturned a key provision of the Voting Rights Act to combat racial discrimination in voting.

Puts out democracy on the brink? Hahahahahahahahahaha

Stupid gullible fool.
The only thing being done to our democracy right now is the left is destroying their opportunities to regain real power.

Keep it up dumbasses

Hahahahahahahahahaha

I have a democratic tax plan to propose for you demodummies out there. Let's suppose that we enact a straight across the board flat tax where in everyone pays the same percentage of their income, no matter the amount or source of income. No exemptions and no exclusions. Every dime you make you pay the same percentage into income tax. This is a very popular concept that's been proposed time and time again and no one can deny that everyone pays their "fair share" under this system. However as the wealthy are paying much much more in actual dollars under this tax plan it simply is NOT fair to the wealthy as they are paying so much more for pretty much the same benefits. In order to restore fairness to the system I propose that at the end of every years all tax payers sit down and earmark the tax dollars they paid in and that's where and how tax money is apportioned without any fiddling around by Congress. The people say where and how much tax money is spent. There's no denying that is a Democratic idea yet fair to all. If you pay more you have more say but if you pay in nothing you have no say in how the money is spent nor should you.

I propose that only those with some skin in the game be allowed to vote. But that's not bought with money, it's bought by serving your country by fulfilling a mandatory period of conscription that begins upon graduation from high school. If you're not willing to serve the nation then why should you be allowed a voice in how it's run? You'd have a choice of either two years military serve of four years non military in a CCC like outfit. Everyone that's able goes to boot camp. It applies universally to everyone regardless of gender, race, Creed, social status or wealth. No service = no vote.

I like that. I would also suggest that unless you pay more in taxes than you collect in benefits you have no vote. Exclusions of course for the elderly or otherwise disabled. Military service would entitle you to voting status for life. Libs complain that some rich don’t pay anything in taxes because of “loopholes” in the tax code, so now those folks will not be voting along with the net tax receivers.

While we are dreaming- why don’t we impose a limit on elected officials net worth gain while in office. When elected your net worth can not increase by more than 50% of your annual government salary per year, and extends a year for every year in office after you leave. I am sick of these 20 plus year congress people lining their pockets with lobbyists cash and perks.

A question for fans of democracy - how far should it go? The democratic socialists think that everything should be run democratically. Or, to be completely accurate, the quote from their website says they "believe that both economy and society should be run democratically". That sounds like everything to me, but feel free to quibble.

In my view, democracy is only useful, and only justified, when we really do need to force conformity. When we all need to decide on one course of action and abide by that decision. In all other cases, people should be free to go their own way.

Reading the text, one must conclude we live in a democratic republic. COTUS defines the method which establishes a balance of power, between three separate branches.

Yes Wry Catcher a Democratic Republic
is not the same as a pure Democracy.

Thank you. We are of course a represented democracy, something not well understood by too many above.
youre the only one that seems confused,,,

Dear Wry Catcher
Since we are in agreement that America is a
Representative Democracy or
Democratic Republic
then is the confusion over the language/terms?

That "Representative Democracy" is still NOT
the same as saying "America is a Democracy"
America is DEMOCRATIC but within a Republic
or Representative system. We elect offices such
as Senators who vote on behalf of the states and people represented.

Where we have divisions is with changes such as
* Senators no longer being appointed by States but getting voted on by people similar to House Reps. There are arguments this defeats the purpose of Senators serving as a check on the House of Reps.
One represents the State the other the People, so that's one area where it is argued that the Representative system was there for a reason, and voting directly by the people defeats it because the House of Reps is for that and the Senators were originally designed to be selected differently on purpose.

And another area that I believe we have strayed and messed up:
* We are allowing Govt officials in legislative positions as well as Judges in Courts to decide matters of BELIEFS instead of respecting and protecting individual free choice.

You don't take your beliefs and put that up for a democratic vote by the public to mandate for everyone!

So that is messed up, and has always caused problems between groups fighting for different political beliefs. Instead of continuing that trend of oppressing the minority group by pushing a majority narrative, I believe we are overdue to address this area of "political beliefs" especially "political parties" and decide how to check this similar to checks on govt.

The answer is a constitutional representative republic democracy

We have 3 limits on our democracy

Constitutional. Representative Republic type of democracy

The same as saying we have a sedan ford type of car

Both are cars and democracies

Again what makes a democracy is that the voters controls the govt and that is what we have but its limited to a constitutional representative republic type of democracy

We are listed as a democracy

A democracy of loons soon destroys a nation

America has brought a much wider democracy than the founders. Who set 21 as the min age to vote

And the founders would not let the unwise vote at all and we do

Why did we change

Democracy always brings the changes that destroys a nation

to save this nation the men will have to
Rise and stop the voting of the unwise if not a democracy of the unwise will elect crooks that destroys the nation

There is no such thing as "American Democracy"...we are a representative republic....

A republic TYPE of democracy

A ford car. Is the same as a republic type of democracy

The ford is a car

The republic is a democracy

There goes a ford

There goes a republic

One is a car and the other a democracy

A representative republic type of democracy
A What?....

What type of government, have you given us Mr Franklin? A republic, madam, if you can keep it.....
I don't know what a "republic type of democracy" is.....we have a democratic form of government but we are not and never have been a pure democracy....

Right not a pure democracy

There is no nation with a pure democracy

That would be democracy from babies to coma victims and instant

So there are no pure democracy nations

We are a democracy because the govt cannot stop the voters. It's the voters being democratic that stops the govt

We did great until this democracy voted in other laws and changed the wise founders laws to a much wider democracy

We now have to stop our democracy in order to survive

Our democracy is now having loons elect crooks

So yes our democracy is indeed committing suicide like our founders said They limited it but not enough to stop the suicide
