Just remember, it is the Republicans fault, Obama said so.

The U.S. Senate failed to pass both Republican and Democratic alternatives to head off across-the-board spending cuts, nearly guaranteeing Washington will blow past a Friday deadline to avoid or replace $85 billion in cuts that threaten economic growth, military readiness and jobs. The Democratic alternative would have replaced the cuts, known as the sequester, with a combination of a minimum 30% tax on millionaires and cuts to defense and farm programs. It failed 51-49.
"I really believe that the American people deserve better than what the Republicans in this building believe is the right thing," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
The Republican alternative would have transferred sweeping authority to President Obama to force him to determine how to implement $85 billion in cuts instead of the across-the-board spending cut affecting most reaches of the federal government. The sequester exempts military personnel accounts and the social safety net including Social Security and Medicare. The GOP measure also failed, 38-62.

The Dems feel they are now in a position of political power. Republicans can play ball or be blamed for everything, and that is the likely scenario. While it is somewhat of a gamble and could backfire, odds are that Republicans really take it on the chin in 2014 if they continue to stonewall.

In newer new news.............the House Republicans passed a resolution to hang a calender from the year 1778, and try to govern accordingly. Section B of that bill proposes that should that fail, a calender of 1955 be posted and voting will resume.

Good.

It may not cut anything, but we can at least slow the growth of government.

And it will demonstrate that things arent so bad if we someday do cut spending. Of course, the administration might be trying to create chaos to claim otherwise.

Right Wing Cognitive Dissonance Message Alert!

If the sequester is only a fraction of the budget and according to Con-reality, not going to cause any pain, why fix it, why assign blame?

Somebody please, please, help these people!!!

So if we do nothing the automatic cuts kick in....
So why wont the Democrats work on cuts before Friday then they can have more control over the cuts.
Why do the democrats want to do nothing, have the automatic cuts kick in that they don't want.

Easy answer...they will do anything that puts the GOP in a bad light.....

Perhaps, because assigning blame is what your messiah has been attempting to do for the past two months. You didn't mind him doing it, but you find it horrible that the Republicans are pushing back. This sequester will be as painful as the administration can possibly make it, and they, and you, will attempt to assign the blame to the congressional Republicans.

However, I see Obama is now attempting to pull back from his own dire warnings, and insisting that the pain will be gradual. The world will not end tomorrow.

All these people on both sides going on and on about how the cuts will cost jobs.

I thought the government didn't create jobs.

I thought smaller government was the key to economic growth and job creation.

Who said those things? Anyone remember?

The White House been saying this for weeks now. You people need to get out more often. :laugh2:

All along the Democrats have been saying the cuts won’t grind government to a halt on March 1. Furloughs, benefit cuts and canceled contracts will come gradually. The GOP's noise machine has been insisting Obama is and Dems are preaching Armageddon. They haven't...but the independent CBO has. :eusa_whistle:

Days ago...
Chris Van Hollen, a top House Democrat, dismisses such criticism. “There’s no doubt you’ll see a huge amount of disruption,” he tells me. “The timing of that is less clear.”

The Maryland congressman points to a Congressional Budget Office study that says the cutbacks will cost the country 750,000 jobs this year. “This isn’t administration propaganda,” Van Hollen says. “This is the nonpartisan, independent CBO speaking.”

By the Democrats' own words in the compounded face 8.0 percent Unemployment since 2007 and a diminishing number of individuals making $250K+ per year: "We have a revenue problem". With less people making money, do you think we have a revenue problem?

Getting the country back-on-track-for-all is the Obama mandate handed to him by the 2012 electorate

Then maybe he can spend a few days a week in the WH working on that instead of being in eternal
campaign mode out on the road.
