I watched an Animal Planet video on tv that featured a day with a perfectly tame grizzly bear named Bart, who is amazingly docile and playful. This bear was in a few movies including one I saw with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. For anyone who watched the Animal Planet video the bear attack scene in the movie was totally unconvincing because Bart was obviously playing with Baldwin -- hoping to earn an ice-cream treat.

Bart's trainer took charge of him as a day's-old cub after his mother was (illegally) shot by a hunter. He took the cub into his home and raised it like a puppy, eventually building an enclosed habitat on his expansive property. It is truly amazing to see how this massive (nine feet tall, 850 pound) creature is totally submissive and obedient to his owner/trainer. He doesn't do tricks but he will sit or lie down when commanded to and he is incredibly gentle when rough-house playing. You can tell that in the movies because in the supposed "killing" scenes Bart is simply hugging his human playmate and when opening his mouth to roar he is only begging for ice cream. So it's completely understandable what inspired the facetious "rape" headline.

Bart's owner, who apparently is financially secure, attributes the bear's gentle nature to his diet of only cooked meats and sacks of dry dog food. No blood.
