There are ways to manipulate data. Also, I thought I read somewhere that the U.S. buys voting machines from foreign countries such as china.

Something else to consider is wireless technology. These days we don't need to be physically hooked up to the internet. This technology is not in my wheelhouse but I do know people can be sitting in a cafe that offers free Wi-Fi and have their information hacked. Again, this is not something I have extensive knowledge in.
