Cows actually live better lives than a lot of people do, well fed, pampered, get lots of medical care; the all weigh 3 to 4 times what they used to just a few hundred years ago, as do most farm critters. If they weren't valuable to humans they would be far fewer if not extinct by now. Their deaths are much more humane than what 'Mother Nature' has in store for them on her own.
