I remember candidate Obama saying this in 2008.

The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents — #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.

Obama prolonged the recession. He didn't pull us out of anything. His only accomplishment was getting elected at the right time. See, the economy always recovers after a recession. That's why they are called "recessions." They are temporary. If your term starts after the bottom of the recession has passed, they everything looks rosy for you. It almost wouldn't matter what you did, then economy would still get better. But Obama did manage to make the recovery take much longer than it had to, and it's one of the most anemic we've ever had.

Clinton refinanced the debt. It was equivalent to putting all your credit card debt onto a new card with a temporary low interest, which would later skyrocket, but it would be in the future and not on his watch. It was mostly some very creative bookkeeping and not a real surplus.

Even if the left believes this, does it matter that a Republican congress tried to keep Billy in line?
