(CNN)The antiparasitic drug ivermectin doesn't prevent severe disease from Covid-19 any more effectively than symptom management and close observation by medical professionals, according to a study published Friday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.
The study enrolled nearly 500 people 50 and older who were at risk of severe Covid-19 because of their age and underlying health. These patients were treated at 20 public hospitals and a quarantine center in Malaysia in 2021.
Half of the patients took a relatively high dose of oral ivermectin for five days, and the other half -- the comparison group -- received treatment for their symptoms, such as fever-reducing medications. All were monitored for progression of disease.

Interesting that they didnt test what Ivermectin does on its own verses nothing. If it does the same thing that Remdesvir does, then why don't we use the cheaper Ivermectin?

Because if you're going to study a drug, you don't deprive the study arm of standard medical therapy. That would be unethical.

This randomized trial had 500 ppl, another recent one had 400 and had the same results, which is, Ivermectin had no signficant effect against the control group. The largest double blind trial last year had over 1200 in it. Same result. A 501 person randomized double blind study out of Argentina mirrored the other double blinds. These are all large gold standard trials and none of them say ivermectin works. None of the countries that adopted ivermectin as a treatment have continued their usage after a couple of months of ineffectiveness. Unless you have zero common sense no one should be pushing this drug as a covid treatment.
