Eagle Scout honor student expelled from school after forgetting gun locked in truck

So you're telling me the legislature can't make it a crime to bring a weapon onto private property against the wishes of the property owner? Really? Maybe you think if a sign says "no trespassing" you can go ahead and do that, too? The property owner isn't a legislator, right?
It seems you have a little problem with reading interpretation. I'll try to make it easier for you.

If you own a business and you decide you don't want anyone bringing firearms onto your property, or dogs, or cats, pornographic photos, bottled water, or whatever, and you post a sign to that effect, do you think by doing so you have just legislated a law?

There is already a law against trespassing.
Exactly.

There also is a law against rape. But there are no laws against carrying a (legal) firearm onto a premises (the exceptions being prisons, etc., where the laws are specific and plainly posted.)

So the cop who told that fellow he'd committed a felony for violating someone's arbitrary rule was pulling his chain for unnecessarily announcing he was carrying a gun.

If a black kid had done this you would not be so mad huh?

You know if he had driven the family car after dad had finished his shift as a gaurd and the dad left his gun locked in the trunk you would have not been so forgiving huh?

You people have no consistant morals

Again.....you are such a dumbfuck. I dont care what color the person is.
The fact of the matter is he is not a discipline problem he is an honer student who made a mistake.
Now if the kid(regardless of color)was a discipline problem with a history of being a punk?
Kick his ass out of school.

Dude, HELLO! If you're forbidden to carry a weapon onto someone's property and you do - that's trespassing. That's known as a "crime" ! Property owners are allowed to narrowly define who may come onto their property. If I put up a "no soliciting" sign on my property, that means I explicitly forbid solicitation and anyone entering for that purpose is trespassing. If I put up a "no firearms allowed" sign on my property and you enter with a firearm, you are trespassing unless the law provides otherwise (cops executing their duty, for instance).

I wouldn't be surprised if trespassing while carrying a firearm is a felony, either. Do we know what state this happened in?

Eagle Scout Facing Expulsion over Gun Charge

PRINCETON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Johnston County high school student has been expelled for bringing a gun onto school property, but the school's student body is coming to his defense.

David "Cole" Withrow is a senior at Princeton High School. He was set to graduate in just a few weeks, until his arrest Monday for bringing a gun to school.

Cole, who is an Eagle Scout and an honors student, said he forgot to take his gun out of his truck after skeet shooting. When he got to school and realized the gun was in his car, he went into school to call his mom so he could leave and take the gun home.

Some in the community wonder how a senior with just days left of school can be expelled when two years ago, the school's assistant principal accidentally brought a loaded gun to school in her car and was only suspended for three days.

Withrow had spent the weekend camping with a group of his friends, including Boykin’s son. The boys went fishing for catfish on Saturday and skeet shooting on Sunday.

He realized he had left his shotgun in his truck on Monday morning as he reached to grab his book bag, said Boykin.

“He didn’t know what to do,” she told Fox News. “If you jump in the truck and leave, then they get you for skipping school. Once you are there you have to say.”

So the teenager, who did his senior class project on gun safety, locked his truck, walked to the front office and called his mother. That’s when the trouble started

So this kid was going to graduate with honors and now he can't. I also find it interesting that the vice principal made the same mistake and was only suspended for three days. I feel there should be a grey area and not so black and white. If the kid had not called his mother to do the right thing school adminstrators would have probably never know the gun was in his car.

The kid has learned some valuable lessons in life. Don't trust authority. Don't assume people are reasonable. Don't assume you know what "the right thing" is. Never tell on yourself. He will finish his classes in Summer School and his new view on confessing in front of strangers, even accidentally, will keep him out of trouble in the future.

I rode to high school with a buddy who had his rifles hanging on the gun rack in the back window. Principal even commented on how he liked one of the rifles.

Those were the good ol days. I use to arrive at school with guns in the rack all the time.
And I always carried a buck knife at school.

I love Texas. But the lib insanity is spreading, even here.

In ten years the latinos will own your state.

You are the dying dino dude

Hey dumbfuck......those latinos will be taking over your state as well.

LOL! In ten years? Have you been to Texas lately?

You just want Texas to be a shithole like N.O.
And if you came to Texas and all you saw was latinos? You must hang out in the barrio.
The only mexicans you see on my side of town are mowing grass.

so you are saying he should have been above the law that others also had to comply with?

You mean like the compliance shown from the teacher who brought the loaded gun to school and then let it fall into the hands of children? That kind of compliance? What happened to that teacher again, Dullard?

So you're saying that if someone else has gotten away with breaking the law, no one else should be held accountable?

You are now reaching TM dumbfuck status.

IN 5 minutes it is guaranteed you will type something really fucking stupid.....again.

You think it'll take a whole five minutes?

Texas is a state where cops were going around busting people for being drunk - in bars. Texas could never be like N.O.

Fucking racist.

The principal of this school, who brought a loaded gun to school, then lost it for two weeks, that might be against the law.

Why do you keep bringing that up? The law does not excuse bad behavior because someone else did it.

This argument is flawed

No it's not. The principal was not held to the same standard as the student.
THAT is the flaw.
And what the principle did was WAY worse.

No you aren't. You are opposed to the law being enforced in this case. That means you aren't about the law.

I oppose all "Zero Tolerance" laws as being stupid laws that take the judgment of special circumstances out of the equation.

And laws that you oppose shouldn't be enforced, right?

A young girl here was to be expelled for giving a midol to another girl during lunch. Both were having their periods.
Sorry but I don't want other children giving my kid drugs that he should only take after consulting with a physician.
For menstrual cramps:

Adults—400 milligrams (mg) every four hours, as needed.
Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
www.dailystrength.org/treatments/Midol/proper-use

You must think that's OK I guess. Where does it stop? Perhaps one kid could give another kid one of his oxycontins because that kid has a headache?

Do you know what Midol is?

I will give you a hint, you take the exact same thing all the time, and call it Tylenol.

His crime: He went skeet shooting the day before with some friends, safely unloaded and locked up his shotgun in his truck afterward, and then forgot it was there the next day when he drove to school.
Zero sympathy here – ‘forgot’ and ‘guns’ do not go together.

With gun ownership comes responsibility, and part of that responsibility is knowing gun laws, policies, rules, and regulations.

It’s better he learn a hard lesson at a young age.

Let’s hope this will compel him to never ‘forget’ about a gun again.

It is ridiculous what is happening to this guy, and it should be rectified. However, I cannot help but wonder if people would be up in arms if a gang banger were in the same situation.

Well considering the gang banger by definition is a criminal......what the fuck else would you expect?

What happen to the teacher is utter bullshit but that IS a seperate matter.

So you're fine with applying justice to certain people and not others? Thats discrimination.

Where did I say I was ok with that? How about instead of putting words in my mouth you address my question.

My take. Yes the kid broke a rule. Does he deserve to be charged with a felony?
I dont think so. Should the principal be charged? Absolutely. He/she placed a loaded weapon in the hands of students. That is negligence.
No one was put in danger by the students actions. In fact he tried to do the right thing and is being punished for it. He now has every reason to distrust authority.
And I wouldnt blame him.
Teachers are now the enemy.

In my trunk? I would have kept my mouth shut til I got home.
