Economy is Great: Do Not Believe Leftist Lies

My brother in law owns a trucking company.

A few months ago we drove and spent some time with the family.

We drove on the Interstate and saw a tremendous number of trucks on the highway.

I mention the heavy truck traffic to my brother in law.

He said that is because America is hauling a lot of freight due to the booming economy.

He also said that he was able to expand his business and hire a few more people because of Trump's tax cut.

MAGA Baby!

Freight hauled has been increasing since 2009...nothing new to see here folks.

Yep, that is absolutely true...However, it is the regulation, and some of the tax breaks that business have recieved under this President that has allowed medium, and smaller companies to maybe expand a little, hire more, and upgrade equipment....Far different from the days of "You didn't build that"....Remember that gem?

Yeah I do remember that stupid speech.

That to me signaled to businesses out there that the government under the Obama administration felt that people that were in business, people that worked 100 plus hours a week to start, build, and run their businesses weren't entitled to the fruits of their labor, because the government, under the mild democratic socialist policies of the Democrat party felt that redistribution of their labor was more important....That is soft tyranny my friend....Trump reversed that.

It was a fallacy...It was the false dilemma....And you know it. You're just pissed that a truck driver called you on it.

A false dilemma? are you drunk this morning? As for truck drivers, I have nothing against truck drivers, there are a number of this on this forum and I have never said a bad thing about their jobs.

You are try way too hard.

Oh, so you voted for Trump in 2016? or, plan to vote for him in 2020?

And don't give me that 3rd party bs either...You should be smart enough if your in here to recognize that 3rd party candidates have NO CHANCE in today's political construct in the United States....Maybe someday, but not now....All 3rd parties do in my opinion is allow people to throw a vote to the democrats without having to hold their nose that actually vote for them, then strut around like they are somehow better than anyone else because they are dumb enough to throw their votes down the drain....

No, I did not vote for Trump nor will I.

The reason that 3rd parties have no chance in today's political construct in the United States is because of people like you on both sides of the aisle that have been programmed to think the way that you do. The very thing you say about 3rd party voters throwing their vote to the Dems is the exact same thing the Dems say about them throwing their vote to the Repubs.

The "some day" could be now if enough people cared, but they do not. Too many people like you are blindly loyal to their party.

He actually had a valid point, just said it wrong as he was apt to do. None of us are in this alone. Your job for instance is greatly improved by the existence of Interstate Highways, assuming you are long haul and not local. This is not hit on you or your job, but just an example. Imagine being an over the road trucker and having to use nothing but state highways that went through every a town every 10 miles. Without the internet I have no job, and I sure did nothing to create or maintain it.

But you are correct, that the Dems feel that redistribution of their labor was more important. How much did it change under Trump? We added 1.3 trillion dollars to the debt in the last year. Farmers getting massive payouts from the tax payers which could rightfully be called redistribution.

How Is the US Economy Doing?
Six Facts That Tell You How the Economy Is Really Doing
BY KIMBERLY AMADEO Updated August 02, 2019
6 Facts That Tell You How the Economy Is Really Doing

There are six facts that tell you how the economy is doing. Economists call them leading economic indicators because they measure the early influencers on growth. In July 2019, they report that the economy is doing well. It has steady growth, low unemployment, and little inflation. That's called the Goldilocks economy because it's neither too hot nor too cold

1) 164,000 Jobs Added In July 2019 = Strong
In the Non-farm Payroll Report, the Bureau of Labor Statistics surveys how many workers businesses added to their payroll each month. It doesn't count farm workers because farming is seasonal. A healthy economy will create 150,000 jobs on average. Companies will only add workers when they have enough demand to keep them busy.
Manufacturing jobs are an especially important indicator. According to the National Association of Manufacturers, the 12.75 million Americans who work in manufacturing earn an average $84,832 a year, including benefits. When manufacturers start laying them off, it means the economy will be heading into a recession. For example, manufacturers hired fewer workers starting in October 2006 when compared to the prior year.
The unemployment rate is also reported. It's a lagging indicator and so isn't as useful a statistic. Companies usually wait until a recession is well underway before laying off workers. It also takes a while to reduce the unemployment rate, even after hundreds of thousands of new jobs are being created
.

Number 2 is coming up in my next post. Read them all: CLICK HERE

164,000 jobs is nothing to brag about

Trump called Obama’s economy a disaster when Obama had fewer than 200,000 jobs in a month

Obama had more than 6 years of job growth ABOVE 200,000 jobs a month. Trump's job growth is anemic in comparison, and it's still not impacting the loss of manufacturing jobs as off-shoring continues unabated. The manufacturing jobs being added are high tech manufacturing requiring training, not the low skill line work that's been off-shored to Third World countries.

Trump's economy is more of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer that we've seen since Reagan fundamentally changed the economy in 1981. Except this time, the stock market gains aren't the result of growth by America's largest corporations, the stock market gains are coming from corporate stock buy backs, squeezing out the little guy shareholder's and 401K's, and further concentrating the wealth of the nation to the top 20% of Americans who hold the most wealth.

Corporations are buying back shares and cancelling them, making the value of remaining issued and outstanding stock, much, much higher. 2018 was the biggest year for stock buybacks in US history, and 2019 was even higher.

Share Repurchase - Overview, Impact, and Signaling Effect

American corporations have been awash with cash since W was President, and it's gotten to the point where they have nothing better to do with all that cash, than to buy back stock, since they're not investing the money to create jobs. Even Warren Buffet, who opposes stock buy-backs as a form of financial abuse, said that he was considering a stock buy-back, because his company now has way too much cash.

Trump's "booming economy" is a HUGE overstatement of the good metrics produced by double goosing the economy with a massive tax cut at the top and record setting deficits. But the effects are hardly spectacular. Every tax cut has been followed by a massive stock crash 6 years later, which has drained the resources of the middle and working class and left them worse off than before. Working class resources and savings were wiped out by W's crash, and the middle class is now struggling as their percentage of the wealth of the nation declines.

Trump knows the risks and figures he'll be long gone with his pockets stuff with cash before it happens. Just like he did with his 7 business bankruptcies. Trump got wealthy by bankrupting everyone who ever trusted him in business. The one promise Trump intends to keep is that he is definitely running the country the exact same way he ran his businesses.

A false dilemma? are you drunk this morning? As for truck drivers, I have nothing against truck drivers, there are a number of this on this forum and I have never said a bad thing about their jobs.

You are try way too hard.

Nah, I don't think so....You started out by asking me,

"Can you honestly try and say none of those things happened prior to 2016?

Your paycheck never went up prior to 2016?

Your 401k did not go up prior to 2016?

You never saw a new business start prior to 2016?"

Economy is Great: Do Not Believe Leftist Lies

That is a false dilemma....Whether or not any of those particular things happened, or not, it doesn't negate the argument I am making....Therefore, a fallacy....

No, I did not vote for Trump nor will I.

The reason that 3rd parties have no chance in today's political construct in the United States is because of people like you on both sides of the aisle that have been programmed to think the way that you do. The "some day" could be now if enough people cared, but they do not. Too many people like you are blindly loyal to their party.

The reason that 3rd parties have no chance is partly due to money, but mostly due to message. Face it, independants, and libertarians just don't get behind anyone with a broad enough appeal as to have a chance....And the fact that you attack me for simply pointing that out is proof that the arrogance of independants like yourself look down on those that don't think like you just like liberals do....So, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that you've voted more democrat in your life than any true loyality to the idea of independant....But that's just my guess....I can assure you I am NOT "blindly aligned" with anyone, however, Democrats, with their democratic socialism platform just don't appeal to me, and never will, and libertarians have some interesting ideas, however when they devolve into the whole drug legalization, and their propencity to take the live and let live ideal to the extreme, they don't appeal either....

I won't go as far as to call them "Moon bats", at least today....Gator just believes that either party is leading us down a shared path of government control, and you know what? He's right about that....The problem is that anyone outside the two political parties don't have a real chance to get through because everthing from money, to the media won't give them a real hearing.

I'm just going to say this...The tit for tat over this subject is so stupid....What I know from being a truck driver, and seeing locations all over the US....My observation is that during the Obama administration, we had businesses in strip malls accross America shuttered, Downtowns looked like war zones with all the boarded up businesses, and peoples outlook about their own personal future was bleak....Today, there are more jobs out there than workers to fill them, wages are up, these same strip malls, and Downtowns are all open for business, and rents are going up due to demand...

So, when the eggheads analyze the numbers they often don't look deep enough to look at the real time effects. ie the reason the economy might be at Obama numbers at this moment, could be because there aren't enough people to fill jobs, while during Obama they were doing everything they could to pilfer business....totally opposite reasons for similar numbers.
And yet, the BLS, with slightly more accurate statistics than you driving a truck, show that 16 million jobs were added under Obama after he ended Bush's Great Recession.

Is that supposed to be a knock at me personally because I drive a truck? So, you think you're better than me eh?

Well, I'll just tell you Faun, your pedegree doesn't outweigh the strength of my argument, especially when I am giving you on the street observations, something real people talk about at their kitchen table, and you try to cherry pick stats that we all know can be manipulated to say anything you want them to...

So, tell us, has your paycheck gone up since 2016? Has your 401K done better? The value of your home risen? Have you noticed once borded up businesses reopened, and doing business? Have you noticed the 'help wanted' ads increasing in your local paper? All of these things are good things, and although I am loathed to a POTUS has the ability to single handedly change these things by himself, I as a rational person have to look at what has been going on with congress refusing to work with him, and say that he has accomplished quite a bit of good even without them. And if you're honest with not only me, but yourself, regardless of your political opposition, and disappointment in losing in 2016, you'd also say it's pretty impressive...
I never said I'm better than you because you're a truck driver. I said your "stats" based on you being a truck driver are no competition to BLS stats. They're not even in the same galaxy.

As far as doing better than I was in 2016, yes, I am. But then I was also doing better in 2016 than I was in 2008. That trend merely continued after Impeached Trump became president. I do give Impeached Trump credit though for not fucking up Obama's wave.

This is very typical of these righties. You'll recall these same people, Impeached Trump included, bashed BLS statistics as fake while Obama was president because it was killing them the unemployment rate was dropping on his watch.

Are you jobless and homeless? How are you able to connect to the internet in this awful economy?

Did it upset you that I accurately described your argument as a fallacious argument, therefore rendering it moot? How about instead of attacking me personally, you come back with an argument that isn't based on a fallacious premise...Then maybe we can have a conversation...

There was nothing fallacious about my argument, since I did not make an argument. I am not sure you know what either word means.

All your stats are doing is telling me that you want to dismiss what the average American living day to day see in their lives...But, problem for you is that is how most will make their decision on who to vote for....And I gotta tell ya, with your candidates out there saying everything from how they plan to destroy whole sectors of jobs in favor of pipe dreams, to how they want to take more of our hard earned income to redistribute it to those either won't or can't get off their asses to improve their own lives through their own efforts. Average people reject that.

No, what I want to dismiss are random anecdotal stories on the internet, they are meaningless as they are not verifiable.

It was a fallacy...It was the false dilemma....And you know it. You're just pissed that a truck driver called you on it.

As for "my candidates", how boring that you assume because I do not worship Trump that I am Dem, though not at all unexpected.

Seems to me the only one here who thinks lowly of truck driver's.... is you. That was a pretty self deprecating comment on your part.

That aside, depending on how many years you have left in your career, you may want to learn to code (i.e., get into the 21st century). It won't be long before that job is automated with self-driving vehicles.
