Ever since the 1989 Iranian death fatwa against author Salman Rushdie over his book The Satanic Verses, there’s been a tendency in the Muslim world toward overreaction to what some perceive as insults to their religion and the Prophet Muhammad. In the eyes of some, a cartoon or a few printed paragraphs justifies mass murder.

Let’s talk about real insults and real attacks on religion.

One of the best editorials I have read in years.

To quote from the OP link:

Let’s talk about real insults and real attacks on religion.

When a megalomaniacal German dictator methodically kills 6 million Jews, and some Muslim leaders question whether the Holocaust occurred, that’s an insult. The harm Adolf Hitler committed was real, tangible, verifiable and undeniable. The denigration of that memory serves only to perpetuate the harm and encourage religious intolerance.

When jihadists rampage through Christian and Yazidi villages in Iraq, raping women and killing children because they are not Muslim, that constitutes a direct attack on religion. To rape, torture and kill on the basis of religious nonconformity goes beyond the realm of insult. It is a crime worthy of a military response and even deadly force to stop the perpetrators.

Then there are those deemed not Muslim enough. In Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and Kenya, the recent record is rife with examples of Muslims killing fellow Muslims because one side opposes the other’s sect. These are true insults to Islam — as was the death of Ahmed Merabet, a Muslim police officer among the 12 killed in Paris.

Do tell ....

One more good quote from the editorial:

The gunmen who committed these murders do nothing to advance their religious values. All they do is advertise their own insecurity and thin-skinned intolerance of free expression. Instead of silencing the critics, these killers have succeeded in multiplying the exercise of free thought — and criticism — a thousandfold.

Yepp.

I hope that 20 Hebdos spring up in place of the one that just perished.

This isn't just a Middle East or religious phenomenon. We've seen people committing cold blooded murder for texting in a theater, reaching for a driver's license, hearing loud music.

Crazies gotta be crazy.

This is absolutely true.

But did those crazies to whom you refer quote religious texts as the justification for their henious acts?

THERE'S the difference in most all cases. These yahoos even screamed that they had avenged Mohamet.

Some liberals, such as WACKO Bill Maher, have actually seen the light, used logic, and realize that it's hundreds of millions of muslim's that are the problem discussed here...Then we have fucking Nuttley, and her stuck to her forehead, liberal talking points.... You are a disgusting piece of shit, Nuttley!

Amazingly true!

If Allah is so weak that he cannot defend himself, if Mohammad is so weak that he cannot defend himself, if Islam is so weak that it cannot stand on its own two feet without mere mortal human beings doing its dirty work - rushing to its defense.......it is indeed the weakest of faiths.
