Ever wonder why 'liberal' is an insult?

Modern liberals bear no resemblance to those of the 18th century.

But people figured out that "progressive" basically meant socialist in the early 20th century, so they had to steal another description for themselves to obscure their true statist agenda.

It's all very Orewllean.

So this statist agenda has been going on for 100 years?

On another note, modern conservatives wear little tea bags on their hat brims and bear no resemblance to those of even 20 years ago.

Liberals project their shortcomings onto conservatives. Their policies don't work so their solution is to do more of the same. Disagree with them and you quickly find out that they are not liberal by dictionary definitions.

A perfect example of projection!

Yes. But you like statism (at least when your favored political party is in charge of the state, anyways) so it's really no big deal to you.

Indeed. And isn't it so frustrating when people no longer accept a Republican Party that allows itself to get played and rolled by progressive statists?

The term 'liberal' is not an insult. The conservatives, because they are so intrinsically mean spirited and love name calling more than any adolescent ever has, have tried to turn the word 'liberal' into an insult, but the only ones who see it as so are themselves.

Liberal means liberal, directly in accordance with the literal dictionary definition. There is no difference. I am not insulted when being considered a liberal. I know I’m a liberal; I can’t imagine any other way of being and don’t want to be anything else. The conservatives try to make it an insult in order to demean people who don’t think as they do. It only proves one thing: they are the antithesis of liberal -- close minded and mean spirited.

Nah .....liberals get insulted because they had to change the name to progressives.

Like global cooling to global warming to climate change.. the tards have to make every word as sterile as possible so they dont get there ass kicked in a debate

So you insult liberals because of a name change? Wow, this probably violates the constitution or something.
Anyway, without liberals there wouldn't be social security and medicare/caid. I wonder how many conservatives think about having granny moving in with them and paying her medical bills when she's too old to work. Be careful what you wish for, guys. What's a republican ever done for you?

I spend a lot of time trying to remain a neutral in political ideology. Insofar as my positions on issues though I think I'm a liberal-leaning moderate. But I try to just hop on one foot one ither side of the fence I may find myself on at a given moment. I believe choosing one side over the other, or identifying too much as particular things means you're becomming more biased the more definitions you take upon yourself. When we should all be more neutral and open to examination of things on a case by case basis.

Conservatives have good ideas and positions, but so do liberals. But do I want to see either have a majority power position? No way. That'd be stupid and only result in a majority of one sides' political interpretations coming to be. Too much of a good thing in other words. When a little bit of every idea is always better.

For my nerd friends, in AD&D terms I'm 'neutral good with lawful tendencies' :)

The modern tea party didn't even start until Obama signed Obama care. Quit your lying

I've never smelled bull crap before. Do you do it often? Does being vulgar make you feel more macho?

That's the problem. Psychologists have examined thought process related to public policy issues and have found conservatives tend to put little effort into their analysis. "Conservatism" really is another way to say "low-effort thinking."

You mean a paid propagandist claims that conservatives tend to put little effort into their analysis. Gullible liberals believe this kind of manure is real science.
