During World War II, the FBI had an ongoing feud with the OSS over who had what authority in what hemisphere. FDR gave counter intelligence and intelligence in the US, and Central and South America to the FBI. So FBI agents were running around like they were OSS spies in South America through most of World War II. Why? Hoover didn’t like not controlling access to all the secrets. With knowledge of Secrets, came power.

There has never been a time when the FBI was not both corrupt, and political. Read the old book The FBI nobody knows by Fred Cook. There are still copies out there.

Remember G. Gordon Liddy learned his crap in a basement in Quantico under the tutelage of the FBI. He left the FBI to work directly for the RNC in charge of the Plumbers. Watergate was his plan. Granted he didn’t order it, but breaking and entering, burglary, and all of that were just part and parcel of the whole FBI agent training program.

This is the first time they have attempted to frame a duly elected president with a non crime after turning a blind eye to DNC and Hillary corruption...

As far as the Hoover era is concerned you have a point of course but this is 2018...we just had 8 years of hope and change...guess nothing changed all that much...
