CDZ For what reason are kids having to learn about slavery ??

If we don't teach kids about slavery in the US, they will never understand where Negro poverty came from.
Slavery ended 160 years ago.
Most immigrants came to America with nothing.
Most immigrants come by choice. Most immigrants aren’t subjected to Jim Crow laws and most immigrants weren’t subjected to segregation.

But that isn’t what we’re talking about, is it? We’re talking about the fact that the o/p doesn’t think history should be taught because it offends him. Apparently it offends you, too.

Did you ask her what she learned?
. She told me that she was to learn about slavery.. That was enough.

If that was enough for you, your ignorance is your fault.
Well you know what they say about opinions right ?

There is no opinion there. The fact you failed to follow up and engage the child is your error. There is no doubt about it.
Oh that will be next, but why should we have to counter the bullcrap if it were trusted that it could be done right ?? Nothing wrong with teaching super contentious history as an elective concerning high school students, but what's going on in the elementary stages is tragic when it comes to these things. If it causes white guilt or black hatred then it is wrong period. This nation should be looking to move forward, and not get trapped in the history books forever.

Elective? What a load!

All the racial division that racist libtards (Democrats) cause is a great tragedy.
How are so called liberals causing division when the o/p doesn’t think history should be taught because history offends him.

We’ll wait.
. Did you ask that when the crazies were out trying to tear down all the statues, and rewriting history to suit their agenda ?
Nice deflection.

You mean the statues of people who committed treason so they could continue to own other human beings? Those statues?

Again. Stop deselecting. There is a difference between choosing not to honor people who committed treason and not teaching history.
. So the black kids should see the whites in these villainous roles, but don't let a white kid think that any whites in the time period we're actually brave warriors who were genius on the battlefields, and even put away slavery in repentance during or after the battles right ?? No of course not, because it's got to be a spoon fed version that creates white guilt, and foments hatred towards innocent whites who had nothing to do with the history of their ancestors today. The whole statue thing like everything else is being handled wrong also. It's got to change.

I was fully aware of what slavery was while I was in the third grade
Nobody "protected" my delicate feelings

I was able to watch Civil Rights protests on the TV news when I got home. I also saw coverage of the Vietnam war....it did not give me feelings of hate, but feelings of injustice

What is not "balanced" in what your granddaughter learned about slavery?
Do you want her to learn the slaveholders views?
. Is that what you liberals eternally fear, is that the kids might learn a better view than what you are trying to force feed them forever ?? It has to stop somewhere or it begins to punish the generations for crimes they didn't commit and would never commit. So what is it continuing for ? We all know by now what the reasoning behind it all is, and that's what you all are fearing the most. Without these divisive issues, then you can't club the white people over the heads with them anymore.

It is your thread...

You have yet to answer what "other view" about slavery you want your granddaughter to learn?
. She doesn't need to learn anything about it at age 8. Maybe 15, but not 8. The same goes for other subjects as well. The brainwashing has got to end.. Enough of the bullcrap already. If anyone can't see the damage it causes on future generations, then they need help badly.

Using that kind of logic, why don't we just move history to post-secondary education?

The little snowflakes still won't be ready for it according to you.
. Whatever it takes to solve the issue, but why do you refer to elementary students as little snowflakes ??

That is how you are treating them. I figured you would agree.

All the racial division that racist libtards (Democrats) cause is a great tragedy.
How are so called liberals causing division when the o/p doesn’t think history should be taught because history offends him.

Nice deflection.

You mean the statues of people who committed treason so they could continue to own other human beings? Those statues?

Again. Stop deselecting. There is a difference between choosing not to honor people who committed treason and not teaching history.

You weren’t concerned about black kids. You were concerned about your white grand kids. You didn’t even bother finding out what they were taught.

Big difference in the geographically located school systems, curriculums, styles, agenda's etc. May not have been an issue in your career, but it is an issue in other areas of the country. So let's just leave it at that, and thank you if you don't see the problems, because that means you weren't part of the problems. Congrats on your teaching career.

. I think the innocent black children are also being poisoned in their minds by the bullcrap, so nice try. I want all American children to grow up with an equal education, and equal chances to enter into the workforce and careers without hatred in their hearts for one another. I said once that if they remove the statues, then it all needs to go... Period.

My granddaughter who goes to school with Blacks, Asians, Mexicans, whites (her color), etc just said to me "PaPa we're learning about slavery"... My heart sank knowing what the poor child was being exposed to, and how she will next be basically looked at by her black classmates in a different way, and this after they being themselves exposed to the events surrounding this time period in which waxes hot amongst so many Americans to this very day.

Blacks are running around trying all they can to erase history (destroying statues), etc. Yet they want the white children to be exposed to a government version of events in which will cause generations after generations of naive children to be saddled with white Guilt.

Then we have the upcoming "black history month", where the same results can also take place in this program just as well. What's wrong with changing the month to "AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH" instead ?????? In American History Month the children would be able to pick out their favorite person in American history to write an essay on.

What's wrong, scared a black child might pick a white person to write about or think highly of ??? Jessie Jackson, and old Al Sharpton along with Maxine Waters would have a cow wouldn't they ?

When are we truly gonna get beyond this bullcrap ??

I think you will find that schools will teach about the American slaves, but not the Roman slaves. They also won't teach about the Greek slaves. You know, the chaps that created democracy. For you see, the only way to make a democracy run half way efficiently was for the elites in Greece to have slaves to do their work for them, that way they had time to educate themselves on the issues of the day and stand around and debate them. Today, a democracy works by the slaves being told who to vote for by the press and education system and two party system while the elites just lie their arse off to them.

Similarly, schools may teach about genocide when it comes to the American Indian or Holocaust, but you will never hear a teacher say anything about the millions of Armenian Christians killed off by the Turkish government. Why? Well cuz that would not go over well with the current Turkish government. Also, they are Muslims.......so...............upsetting them is a big no, no. Besides, no one gives a damn about Christians. Just look at the inaction of the UN when it came to the genocide of Christians in the Sudan or in Syria. Not a finger was lifted to help them.

Meanwhile in Libya...........
Speaking of the Greeks and Romans....

The Greeks justified slavery on the grounds that they were morally superior.

The Romans believed that slavery was against the Natural Law but justified slavery on the grounds of state superiority.

America's Founding Fathers believed that slavery was against the Natural Law but knew not how to end it at the time of founding but did intend for it to perish.

The Democrats believed like the Greeks, that slavery was justified on the grounds that they were morally superior.

The Constitution was ratified in 1789. ARTICLE I, SECTION 9, CLAUSE 1 states, "The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person."

In 1808, Congress abolishing the slave trade at the earliest date allowed per ARTICLE I, SECTION 9, CLAUSE 1 of the Constitution. Thus proving that the intent of ARTICLE I, SECTION 9, CLAUSE 1 of the Constitution was to end the slave trade.

Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves - Wikipedia

"The Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves of 1807 (2 Stat. 426, enacted March 2, 1807) is a United States federal law that stated that no new slaves were permitted to be imported into the United States. It took effect in 1808, the earliest date permitted by the United States Constitution."

Daniel Webster testifies to the fact that the Founding Fathers intended for slavery to perish.

"And now, let us consider, sir, for a moment, what was the state of sentiment, North and South, in regard to slavery at the time this Constitution was adopted. A remarkable change has taken place since, but what did the wise and great men of all parts of the country then think of slavery? In what estimation did they hold it in 1787, when this Constitution was adopted? Now it will be found, sir, if we will carry ourselves by historical research back to that day, and ascertain men's opinions by authentic records still existing among us, that there was no great diversity of opinion between the North and the South upon the subject of slavery; and it will be found that both parts of the country held it equally an evil, a moral and political evil. It will not be found, that either at the North or at the South, there was though there was some, invective against slavery as inhuman and cruel. The great ground of objection to it was political; that it weakened the social fabric; that, taking the place of free labor, society was less strong, and labor was less productive; and, therefore, we find, from all the eminent men of the time, the clearest expression of their opinion that slavery was an evil. They ascribed its existence here, not without truth, and not without some acerbity of temper and force of language, to the injurious policy of the mother country, who, to favor the navigator, had entailed these evils upon the colonies. I need hardly refer, sir, to the publications of the day. They are matters of history on the record. The eminent men, the most eminent men, and nearly all the conspicuous politicians of the South, held the same sentiments, that slavery was an "evil," a "blight," a "blast," a "mildew," a "scourge," and a "curse." There are no terms of reprobation of slavery so vehement in the North at that day as in the South. The North was not so much excited against it as the South, and the reason is, I suppose, that there was much less at the North; and the people did not see, or think they saw, the evils so prominently as they were seen, or thought to be seen, at the South. Then, sir, when this Constitution was framed, this was the light in which the convention viewed it..."

"...there was an expectation that on the ceasing of the importation of slaves from Africa, slavery would begin to run out. That was hoped and expected."

Alexander Stephens, the Vice President of the Confederate States, testifies to the fact that the Founding Fathers believed that slavery was against the Law of Nature, that it was evil, that it was not possible for them to end it at the time of the founding, but did intend for it to perish.

“Corner Stone” Speech

Alexander H. Stephens

Savannah, Georgia

March 21, 1861

“Corner Stone” Speech | Teaching American History

"The prevailing ideas entertained by him [Thomas Jefferson] and most of the leading statesmen at the time of the formation of the old Constitution were that the enslavement of the African was in violation of the laws of nature – that it was wrong in principle – socially, morally, and politically. It was an evil they knew not well how to deal with, but the general opinion of the men of that day was that somehow or other, in the order of Providence, the institution would be evanescent [temporary] and pass away. "

So while Stephens acknowledged that the Founding Fathers knew it was against God's will, had no idea how to end it quickly, and designed for slavery to pass away, Stephens then turned around and said that the Founding Fathers had it all wrong.

"Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. . . . and the idea of a government built upon it. . . . Our new government [the Confederate States of America] is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid – its cornerstone rests – upon the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man. That slavery – subordination to the superior [white] race – is his natural and moral condition. This – our new [Confederate] government – is the first in the history of the world based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth."

So there can be no better witness than Alexander Stephens.

The final proof that Stephens and Webster were correct that the founders intended for slavery to perish can be found in the Founding Fathers' actions following the ratification of the Constitution in 1789.

In 1789, following the ratification of the Constitution, Congress expanded its fight to end slavery by passing the Northwest Ordinance. That law - establishing how territories could become States in the new United States - forbade slavery in any federal territories then held; and for this reason, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin all eventually came into the nation as free States.

Northwest Ordinance - Wikipedia

And don't forget that they abolished the slave trade in 1808, the earliest date permitted by the United States Constitution.
. Good reading, but is this something to be taught to third graders in long length and in detail, and if not then what are the watered down versions being taught to third graders now ??? What I'm seeing here is something that should be taught to maybe 8th graders on up, and in a very fair and balanced way that represents all sides of the story. The struggles of slaves, and the slave rescuers need to be taught in a equally balanced way, but undoubtedly by what we are seeing as a result of the public education, is that we are seeing that a very controlled and bias application of these events have stirred the pot with a huge spoon in order to foment hatred, and to create strife among the future generations.

It should be that these things are taught (in a way), that saves the dignity of the children learning these things, and it should not be placing a heavy burden upon their minds, bodies and souls.
But you dont know what they are being taught. You didnt enquire.

I knew about slavery when I was in third grade
I also knew about the Civil Rights movement and saw people attacked by dogs and saw children mowed down with fire hoses

Children today are not Snowflakes
. Children today are being turned into snowflakes because of it all. It needs to end or be changed up. Did the teaching to you those things you wrote above, place a heavy burden upon you at to young an age, and cause you to hate because of it all ? If so then you were to young to be taught such things. Once get to a certain age, and the lessons are properly balanced, then the understanding without the misinformation, and hatred can be controlled better as a result of it all.

I was fully aware of what slavery was while I was in the third grade

You didnt enquire.
. Oh I know trust me..

50 years ago, I learned all about slavery at age 8

Are today's children more sensitive?

Students need to learn the truth and facts about our Nation’s history, not the lies, racism, fear, ignorance, bigotry, and hate most conservatives attempt to propagate - this thread's premise being one of many examples.

You mean the lies the democrats tell by omitting that their political party was the political party that fought to restart the slave trade with Africa, fought to have slavery in new states, and went to war to keep their slaves. Then, when their side lost, the democrats enacted Poll Taxes, Literacy tests, their party members started the ku klux klan and their political party created segregation under the jim crow laws....

That is the history that isn't being taught.....

The lie that democrats became the party of Civil Rights in the 1960s is one that also needs to be defeated...
Third Graders need to learn the damage that guns do to our society

We can begin by teaching them about the First Graders at Sandy Hook Elementary

“Brainwashing “?
. Brainwashing not in the sense of learning history, but in the way that history is being taught. If you give some just like we are seeing in these idiot college professor's these days to much power or to much power to slant the education being taught, then look out. We know theirs a problem, because it is showing up in people's actions over and over. Then when we witness the actions, and then learn how these actions came about, then the cult comes racing out to defend the indefensible. Pathetic.
