Former NASCAR driver Tighe Scott and his son were arrested Wednesday on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks on the Capitol, the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.
Tighe Scott, 75, and Jarret Scott, 48, were arrested in Pennsylvania on two felony charges and a few misdemeanors each, according to the office. Tighe Scott was identified to agents as a former NASCAR driver by a witness, according to the charging documents.
The office said the felony charges for both men include obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding specific officers.
Tighe Scott, who was a race car driver in the 1970s and 1980s, allegedly struck riot shields and tried to rip a riot shield out of an officer’s hands while at the Capitol, the office said. The office also said Jarret Scott allegedly held a golf club while pushing and resisting against police shields.
The pair was arrested Wednesday along with Scott Alex Slater Jr. and Scott Slater Sr., another father-son duo who the office said was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Body-worn camera and publicly available footage identified the four men at the Capitol that day, according to the press release.
