On the one hand, he should step down so Harris can claim that she actually has some experience leading things from the Oval Office, but that would cut into her ability to campaign. Quite frankly, he should have stepped down this time last year so she could do that. OTOH, if he stays around, it becomes abundantly clear that he really hasn't been leading the country for some time, others are actually doing it and he's just a figurehead.
